Honda Motorcyle & Scooter India (HMSI) is snapping at the heels of Bajaj Auto for second spot in the domestic motorcycle segment, with the gap between the two companies coming down to a meagre 14,200 units during the ongoing fiscal. In the April-February period last fiscal, the gap between the two companies stood at 3,98,525 units. As per the latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM), Bajaj Auto has so far sold 18,15,590 units in the April-February period of the current fiscal while HMSI has sold 18,01,390 units in the same period. Hero MotoCorp with a sale of 58,72,966 units during the period continues to lead the bike segment in the country. Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co today announced appointment of Gaku Nakanishi as the President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd. Nakanishi, who will take over from incumbent Yoichiro Ueno, will assume the role from April 1, consequent to the management changes announced annually by Honda Motor Co., Ltd, the company said in a statement. Ueno will move to New Business Strategy Division, Business Development Supervisory Unit in Honda Motor Co., Ltd for accelerating formulation of new business strategy and pursuit of open innovation in the area of future mobility, it added. For the second month in a row after note ban, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today said its February sales grew 5 per cent to 3,69,865 units while the industry as a whole saw flat sales. This comes against a flat growth for the industry in the reporting month, while for the past three months, the industry sales have been contracting. This takes HMSI's year-to-date sales (domestic and exports) growth at 13 per cent, while for the industry this is only 5 per cent, HMSI said in a statement. HMSI also had lost sales in November and December following the note ban, but as the industry continued to decline, its market share in February rose to by 1.4 per cent to 27.2 per cent, the company added.
