Meat scam leaves restaurants cautious, customers sceptical
Top restaurants in Kolkata have asserted that there has been no decline in footfall in view of a carcass racket unearthed by the police earlier this week, even as foodies showed scepticism in ordering meat-based dishes. People here have resorted to fish, prawn and even vegetarian items amid a chaos over carcass meat sales, Sudesh Poddar, President, Hotel and Restaurants' Association of Eastern India (HRAEI), said. "Roughly, there has been a 60 per cent fall in order of meat items across our member restaurants this week. But we cannot say that the profit margin has gone down as people have replaced chicken and mutton items on their plates with fish and prawn delicacies," he said. Poddar, who also owns Manthan Songhai restaurant in the central part of the city, said the customers have also been asking about the meat quality and the supply source before ordering. The Madras High Court has directed police to register an FIR if a cognisable offence is made out in a compliant made in connection with allowing boys and girls below 18 years into night clubs being run by a Hotel in the city. A petition was filed by R. Hemnath alleging that an Hotel situated on an main arterial road was running night clubs till 5 am and allowing entry of boys and girls below 18. Besides this, the hotel was serving liquor till early hours illegally even after the restricted time of 12 midnight, the petitioner alleged. When he questioned the Hotel authorities, he was threatened and thrown out, the petitioner alleged. The petitioner said though he complained, no action was taken nor did the police register an FIR. CR to run six summer special trains between Mumbai and Goa
The Central Railway (CR) has decided to run six additional summer special trains between Mumbai in Maharashtra and Karmali in Goa to clear the extra rush of passengers. The special train no. 01127 will leave the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai at 12.20 am on May 2 and arrive in Karmali at 11.30 am the same day. Besides, train no. 01128 will leave Karmali at 10.20 am on May 4 and arrive at CSMT at 9.15 pm the same day, a CR press release said. The train will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Kudal and Thivim stations in both the directions and will have a coach composition of 15 sleeper classes and two general second classes, it said. Another special train no. 01129 will leave from Panvel at 9.40 pm on May 2 and arrive in Karmali at 9 am the next day.
