Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping today walked along a sidewalk on the shores of the picturesque East Lake here and later sailed in the same boat for "peace, prosperity and development" in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. PM Modi-Xi's 'chai pe charcha' on Wuhan lake

After resuming the Day 2 of their 'informal talks' with a walk along the East Lake here today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping enjoyed a boat ride.On the second and last day of the informal summit, the two leaders were seen riding on a house boat and chatting over tea - a 'chai pe charcha' moment.The East Lake, a large freshwater lake in Wuhan city, is the largest urban lake in China. It is one of the most popular tourist sites in the country, with over a million visiting the lake annually.This will be followed by a private lunch hosted by the Chinese President in honour of Prime Minister Modi.Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to China to participate in an unprecedented 'informal' summit with President Xi, which is expected to reset the bilateral ties between the two Asian giants, which took a hit post the two-month-long Doklam standoff last year.He will leave for India on Saturday.

Tourism Ministry's institute to promote Indian cuisine inaugurated

A culinary institute set up to preserve, document, promote and disseminate Indian cuisine was inaugurated by Tourism Minister K J Alphons in Noida today. The Indian Culinary Institute's (ICI) Noida campus built in five-acre land with a total cost of Rs 98 crore would be a training ground to groom top-of-the-line chefs of international standards, a statement from the Ministry of Tourism said, adding that the other campus was being set up in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati. "Tourism has grown tremendously in the last year for which country's best and varied dishes have played a great role. This institute which has been conceived with the guidance and suggestions of great chefs from across the world will come out as one among the best in the world," Alphons said. Modi presents paintings of well known Chinese painter to Xi Jinping

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gifted to President Xi Jinping the paintings of a famous Chinese artist who taught in Visva Bharati University in West Bengal. Modi presented Xu Beihong's paintings to Xi during their informal summit here. Xu was known for his Chinese ink paintings of horses and birds. He was one of the first Chinese artists to articulate the need for artistic expressions that reflected a modern China at the beginning of the 20th century. The paintings depicted a horse and sparrows on grass. Xu made those paintings during his stay in Visva Bharati, officials said. The paintings were specially ordered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for the summit. Xu met luminaries such as Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi during his stay in India.

Tourism ministry's culinary institute to be inaugurated tomorrow

The Ministry of Tourism's ambitious culinary institute aimed at promoting Indian cuisine as a niche tourism product will be inaugurated tomorrow, an official statement said. The Indian Culinary Institute (ICI), with its campuses in Noida and Tirupati, will offer diplomas as well as under graduate and post graduate degrees to research in culinary arts. The institute will also have fully equipped kitchen labs, micro biology labs, cuisine theatres, training restaurants, fully equipped class rooms, library and a modern hostel with facilities for 400 students, the statement said. The ICI campus in Noida will be formally launched by Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons and Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma, who will be the chief guest at the inauguration event.
