Under acute drinking water crisis, a village in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh town has been deprived of water for the past three long years.Villagers travel for almost five km every day to fetch water for their daily needs. With a population of 3,000, most people in this village are either farm labourers or petty traders.The schemes launched by both the Central and the State governments have failed to reach the villagers despite many attempts and complaints."We have to walk till Uttar Pradesh border to get water. Our children can't go to school as all their time goes in fetching water. Due to non-availability of drinking water, womenfolk of the village walk five km every day through forest road to collect water," locals told ANI."The district administration too has ignored our problems for the last three years," locals added.The village in Tikamgarh town also continues to be deprived of basic facilities such as school, all-weather road and electricity.

The Bombay High Court at Goa has asked the state government to submit details of the process it follows to cancel the licences of casino operators if they fail to pay the fee as prescribed in the latest notification of the government. A division bench of Justices N M Jamdar and Prithviraj Chavan asked Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande to file a written reply on the process and modalities for cancellation of casino licences tomorrow. The bench also asked whether a showcause notice is issued to casino operators before cancelling the license. The court was hearing a petition filed by Gopal Kanda-controlled Golden Globe Hotels Private Limited (GGHPL) which wanted a reduction of the license fee. The state government hiked the fee from April 1, 2018 arbitrarily, without considering its impact on the tourism industry, the casino company said. The tourism department on Wednesday started its first 24x7 phone helpline (18601801364) for better convenience of tourists.From information about tourism centers to the lodging of complaints, the helpline will provide all the facilities to tourists.There are many cases when tourists are harassed and insulted by locals. This new helpline will lodge their complaints and guide them for the next step to be taken.There will also be arrangements to record the incoming calls on the helpline and the police, administration along with other departments have been appointed to redress all the complaints.The tourists will be updated about the places to visit, the best modes of travelling and where to eat and stay through this helpline.After this helpline, the arbitrary recovery made by auto and tempo drivers in cities will end.UPDESCO (Uttar Pradesh Development System Corporation) has been given the responsibility for the operation of the helpline.
While tourists from across the world come to Goa to enjoy on its picturesque beaches, the locals have of late been holidaying in the state's hinterland to get respite from the summer heat and humidity. Two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans from motorcycle trick riding team 'Janbaz' set a new world record on Tuesday by riding continuously for 10 hr 34 min 27 sec on top of a pole fitted to their steed.Inspector Awdhesh Kumar Singh and Head Constable Durvesh Kumar of BSF rode on 16.5 feet tall ladder/pole fitted to their steed on the 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle and entered the Limca book of world record.They set their record at Chawla BSF Camp in Delhi.The team broke Indian Army's previous record of 09 hr 04 min 05 sec.In an official statement, BSF noted that on April 13 three of these motorcycles carried 36 jawans and covered a distance of 1 km in only 55.52 seconds.BSF's 'Janbaz' was created in 1990, and they are famous for displaying their gravity-defying stunts.
