: Kerala Tourism, led by" state minister, Kadakampally Surendran, will be participating in the Arabian Travel Mart in Dubai in a bid to increase tourist arrivals from the Arabian region. The mart will conclude on April 25. Statistics reveal that the tourist arrivals to Kerala from the Middle-East have been increasing with visitors from UAE going up by 2.64 per cent last year as against the previous year. Visitors from Kuwait saw an increase of 14.33 per cent during last year and"Oman 5.75 per cent, a press release said. The Kerala minister held discussions with local tourism players and presented before them the significance of travelling across Kerala. He also met and held talks with Sri Lanka Tourism Minister, John Amartunga and Maharashtra Tourism Minister, Jaykumar Rawal among others.

Angry over not getting even the production cost of their produce, a group of farmers destroyed their tomatoes here on Sunday.The farmers said that they are not even getting wholesale rate of Rs. 1 per kilogram for tomatoes and whereas the cost to bring tomatoes to the market comes at Rs. 2 per kilogram.A farmer said, "I spent Rs. 50000 per acre to produce tomatoes and now I am not even getting Rs. 500 for tomatoes produced in an acre. We don't have any other option left than destroying tomatoes here only."To register their protest, the farmers spilled tomatoes on road near Post Office square and ran their tractor trolleys over it. Some of them were seen crushing tomatoes with their feet.The protests left the area residents surprised.

About 97 per cent Indian tourists are looking forward to travel 'sustainably' during their holidays to have an enriching experience and for this they will not mind doling out extra money, says a report. A sustainable tourism implies that neither the natural environment nor the socio-cultural fabric of tourist destinations is impacted by the arrival of tourists. According to a survey by Netherland-based travel e-commerce company Booking.com, around 97 per cent of Indian travellers want to travel sustainably in 2018 with 88 per cent of them willing to pay an extra premium to ensure the same. It revealed that while 73 per cent of current Indian travellers always or often opt for sustainable travel, around 32 per cent are willing to pay at least 15 per cent more to ensure as low an impact on the environment as possible. The vistadome coach for Jammu and Kashmir was announced in June last year by the then Union Railways minister Suresh Prabhu at a function here. The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) will start a heritage tour down the Hooghly from April 28. The cruise tour - 'A Voyage through Tide and Time' - will be "solely managed" by the port, KoPT chairman Vinit Kumar told PTI. "The KoPT plans to run the service on weekends but it requires a group of at least 20 heads to conduct a tour. The tourism department will help us in promoting and marketing the heritage trip without any exclusive tie-ups," Kumar told PTI. The tour will begin from the Maritime Heritage Centre at Old Fairlie Warehouse, where visitors would get a chance to learn about the country's maritime history. A 58-year old Swedish engineer was found dead in a hotel room here today, police said. Hedelund Rolf Lennart Willy, a visiting engineer of a plywood factory in Sri Kalahasti, 40 km from here, was found lying dead on his bed when the hotel staff on suspicion broke open the door of the room, they said. The cause of the death would be known only after autopsy, police said. Willy was staying at the hotel for the past one week and had retired for the day last night after dinner at the in-house restaurant as usual. As the room remained locked for a long time this morning, the hotel management in the presence of Willy's friend, who is staying in another room, broke open the door, police said.
