Online accommodation platform major Airbnb today said it has launched the 'Office of Healthy Tourism', a global initiative to drive local, authentic and sustainable tourism in countries across the globe. The company also announced the creation of its new Tourism Advisory Board which will comprise travel industry leaders from around the world, Airbnb said in a statement. "With travel and tourism growing faster than most of the rest of economy, it is critical that as many people as possible are benefiting - and right now not all tourism is created equal," Airbnb Global Head of Policy and Communications Chris Lehane said. China will give visa free entry to tourists from 59 nations to its southern island province of Hainan from May 1, but countries from South, South East Asia and Africa do not figure in the list. Under the new policy, announced today, a group of or individual tourists from 59 countries, including Russia, Britain, France, Germany, US and mostly European, Latin American and Gulf countries, can visit Hainan visa-free and stay there for up to 30 days on condition that they book their tour through travel agencies. The province will offer greater visa-free access for tourists from 59 countries from May 1, in a move to support reform and opening up in the country's southernmost island province, China's State Immigration Administration announced. Hainan is located in the South China Sea coast. "By extending the policy to individuals and the stay to up to 30 days, the government aims to attract more international tourists, nurture the tourism industry and meet the needs of foreign individuals," .

A financial meltdown in Dubai followed by years of slow growth nearly sank the project, but authorities in the Gulf emirate, a former British protectorate, ultimately decided to restore the ship down to replicating her 1960s carpeting at a cost of over $100 million. Three years ago, the Dubai government's Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp. took over the project. It marks the first foray into hotels for the corporation. The ship has been hooked up to Dubai's power grid, though she still floats in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
The Supreme Court today ordered demolition of illegal constructions at several hotels and resorts in the picturesque Himachal Pradesh town of Kasauli, saying the life of people cannot be endangered for making money. The apex court observed that the illegal constructions had put the entire city in danger, causing landslides, and ordered the demolition of such constructions. A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta also observed that some hotels and resorts were supposed to construct only two-storeyed buildings but six-storeyed ones existed there. "You just demolish it (unauthorised constructions). What is going on? You are admitting that you were supposed to make only two-storeyed building. There was landslide in your premises and you did nothing. You are putting the life of people to danger. For what? Money," the bench observed while hearing the plea filed by one of the hotels. The CBI today filed a charge sheet against two companies and 12 people, including former railway minister Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav, for alleged irregularities in grant of an operational contract of two IRCTC hotels to a private firm.
