Italy museum aims to show Casanova as more than just a lover

A museum is opening in the Venetian hometown of Giacomo Casanova, the 18th-century adventurer and bon vivant, in hopes of educating visitors about more than just his notorious womanising. The Giacomo Casanova Museum and Experience doesn't hide Casanova's libidinous side. In fact, the six-room museum includes a bedroom where a shadow installation makes it seem as if Casanova is seducing a woman right in front of visitors. But curators are seeking to shed light on other aspects of the Venetian scholar and writer whose memoir, "History of My Life," provides one of the best chronicles of European high society of the late 18th century. The museum opens Monday, on Casanova's birthday, in the Palazzo Pesaro Papafava in Venice.

BR Ambedkar statue vandalised in Uttar Pradesh

Steam locomotive back on NMR after five years

After five years, a train hauled by a steam locomotive today began its run from Mettupalayam to Coonoor in the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) section, official sources said. The "Heritage Steam Voyage" of the summer special train, consisting of three coaches, would be operated on Saturdays and Sundays till June 24, following a demand from tourists and heritage enthusiasts, they said. The fully-reserved train starts from Mettupalayam at 9.10 a.m and reaches Coonoor at 12.30 p.m with stops at Kallar and Hillgrove, the sources said. In the return direction, the train would leave Coonoor at 1.30 p.m and arrive at Mettupalayam at 4.20 p.m, they added. In an effort to make the journey memorable, Southern Railway will be presented a welcome kit apart from arrangements for on-board refreshments such as Nilgiri tea, samosa, juice and a water bottle.

Luxury travel on railway saloons now a reality for public

The first privately-occupied saloon coach, complete with air-conditioned rooms, valet service and attached bathroom, today started its journey with six customers of a private tour operating company as the Jammu Mail pulled out of the Old Delhi Railway Station. The six VIP customers will be the first passengers to experience the grandeur of travelling in a saloon car, after the facility, which till now was primarily reserved for railway officials to reach places not connected by road or air, was opened to public, the IRCTC said. The first charter service has been booked by M/s Royal India Train Journeys for its six premium customers for a saloon travelling from Delhi to Jammu. The cost of chartering this saloon coach is around Rs 2 lakh, the IRCTC said. UP CM inaugurates elevated road in Ghaziabad

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today inaugurated a 10.30-km-long elevated road, touted to be the longest of its kind in the country, connecting UP Gate and Rajnagar Extension here. Built at a cost of Rs 1,147 crore, the six-lane elevated road is supported on 227 pillars. District magistrate and the vice chairperson of Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) Ritu Maheswar had said, as per its design, vehicle owners will be allowed to drive at an average speed of 80 km per hour on the road. After inaugurating the road at Rajnagar extension area, the chief minister took it to travel to Vasundhara. Samajwadi Party MLC Rakesh Yadav, had "inaugurated" the road on March 16 claiming that the project was started during party's rule in the state. An FIR was lodged against Yadav along with several SP workers.

Mumbai: Piyush Goyal inaugurates Andheri-Goregaon Harbour Line section

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off the newly-extended Harbour Line section between Andheri and Goregaon here on Thursday.In a bid to provide seamless connectivity and better amenities to locals, the extended portion was unveiled, along with 49 other suburban services.The new line offers direct connectivity between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) and Goregaon and is aimed at benefitting nearly 13,000 travelers.
