Southern Railway launches three-phase suburban rail service
Southern Railway today introduced three phase EMUs (electric multiple units) trains comprising 12-car rake with additional features for better passenger comfort. The trains will be operated in the Chennai Beach Tambaram, Chennai Beach-Chengapattu sector from today, a press release said. In the Chennai-Beach and Chengapattu sector, six services were introduced while in the Chennai Beach-Tambaram it is three services. The three phase EMUs has 1,168 seats and provision for 4,852 standing passengers which is 20 per cent more than the existing EMUs. Surveillance cameras were installed in the ladies compartment, it said.
Increase in number of foreign tourists visiting Assam: Sarma
Foreign tourist arrivals in Assam showed a marked increase with 37,840 foreigners visiting the state between April 2016 and October 2017, Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assembly today. The tourists were from France, USA, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Russia, Netherlands and other countries, Sarma said in reply to a question of Pabindra Deka (AGP). To another query of AGP's Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Sarma provided the figures of foreign tourists visiting the northeastern state since 2011-12. While 26,320 foreigners had visited Assam in 2015-16, 20,005 foreign tourists came to the state in 2014-15. There were 19,086, 17,708 and 16,000 foreign visitors in 2013-14, 2012-13 and 2011-12 respectively, he said. Singer Jon Bon Jovi has launched his own brand of rose wine 'Diving Into Hampton Water'. The singer and his is son Jesse Bongiovi have teamed up with French winemaker Gerard Bertrand to launch their own brand of "pink juice" as the rocker likes to call it, reported Femalefirst. "Creating this wine with Gerard was just as creative as collaborating with another songwriter, Gerard uses his talents and wine knowledge just like a gifted musician. Harley Davidson launches new softail range of motorcycles
U.S. Motorcycle maker Harley Davidson today launched the 2018 softail range of motorcycles in the region today. The price of the motorcycles ranges between Rs 12.01 lakh for Steel Bob, Rs. 14.01 lakh for Fat Bob and Rs 17.51 lakh for Fat Boy (all ex-showroom), Western Ghats Harley Davidson Chapter Manager, Rashad A R told reporters on the sidelines of the launch. Hundreds of tourists were stranded for hours after a cable car broke down on the Malaysian island of Langkawi, authorities said today, with some left dangling in cabins over a jungle-clad mountain as night fell. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is ready to serve millets - which has high nutritional value - under the midday meal programme if the government allocates the grains, its CEO Shridhar Venkat said. Currently, the NGO is feeding 1.6 million children every day under the midday meal programme in 12 states. Mostly, wheat and rice-based hot cooked meals are served. "We believe that children should get nutritious food, which has an impact on the lives of beneficiaries. So, we are serving millet-based food items on a pilot basis under the midday meal programme in some states," Venkat told PTI. Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Delray Beach Open beginning today because of a right elbow injury. The Jammu and Kashmir government would explore every possibility to harness and tap the tourism potential in the border district of Poonch, state Tourism minister Tassaduq Mufti said. Karnataka: Five arrested in pub raid
The Police arrested five people for serving liquor outside the purview of an eatery's license in Karnataka.The raid took place yesterday at Hotel Western Tower's pub named 'Hideout' in Belgaum's Kirloskar Road.Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Seema Latkar informed that police conducted the raid on receiving information that Top in Town bar and restaurant was illegally serving liquor outside their license."With the ACP and two-three officers, we raided the place, and we got to know that they were serving liquor on the second and third floor too, which was outside the purview of their license," Latkar told ANI.A case has also been registered in this connection.
Gatimaan Express extended up to Jhansi
In order to boost tourism in Madhya Pradesh, India's fastest train Gatimaan Express will extend its service to Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh.The train which currently runs from Nizamuddin to Agra Cantt in the first phase will extend up to Gwalior from February 19.It will further extend up to Jhansi from April 1."The extension of this prestigious premium train will definitely facilitate movement of tourists to various tourist attractions in and around Gwalior and Jhansi," said a missive issued by the Railway Ministry.The train will run six days a week except on Friday.Gatimaan Express, which was flagged off in April 2016, runs at the maximum speed of 160 kmph.
Women bikers on expedition to ASEAN countries
A four-member team of women bikers are on a 50-day expedition to some ASEAN countries with the aim of highlighting women's safety and promote road travel, an organiser said here today. The seven-week-long expedition, supported by Union Ministry of Tourism, started from Hyderabad on February 10 and the bikers will cross some Southeast Asian countries through the India-Myanmar-Thailand highway, and cover a distance of 16,992 kilometre, an official said. "Through this campaign we are trying to promote road trip and it will help the riders explore places along road side.
