Cabinet approves signing of MoU with Bulgaria in tourism sector

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today approved the signing of an MoU between India and Bulgaria for strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism. The main objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are expanding bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, exchanging information and data related to tourism and encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders, including hotels and tour operators. The countries will also cooperate in establishing an exchange programme for human resource development, and tour operators, media and opinion makers for promotion of tourism. The programme also aims to promote exchange of experiences in the areas of promotion, marketing, destination development and management, a statement from the government said. Alphons allays safety fears as he woos Chinese tourists; blames biased reporting

India is fighting a perception battle on safety for foreign tourists due to "unfair and biased" media reports that the country was the most unsafe for women, Tourism Minister K J Alphons said here. Alphons, who is currently visiting Beijing, Wuhan and Shanghai along with about 20 leading Indian travel agents to woo Chinese tourists to visit India, said that incidents like lynchings are bad for India's reputation. Tourism Minister K J Alphons today made a strong pitch to increase the inflow of Chinese tourists to India as he highlighted India's diversity and assured the best possible security to visitors. The minister also invited the Chinese businessmen to invest in India's burgeoning tourism sector. UP govt targets top slot for state in tourism sector: CM

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a number of schemes to take the state to the top position in the country's tourism sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said today. Addressing the inuagural function of the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh Travel Mart (UPTM) 2018, Adityanath said, "The current state government is striving to make UP the number state in the country in the tourism sector. UP is an extremely rich state from the tourism point of view." "The state government has come out with various schemes for development of tourism," he added. The state government has decided to enhance air connectivity by developing new airports at Bareilly, Moradabad, Aligarh and Azamgarh, Adityanath said. Apart from these locations, the process of developing international airports at Jewar in NCR Delhi and Kushinagar has already been initiated. This will boost tourism, he said. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today inaugurated the 'Jaipur Foot' camp here and met with 500 Vietnamese beneficiaries of the free India-made prosthetic limb. Conservationists seek heritage city status for Agra

Green activists and conservationists have demanded heritage city status for Agra in Uttar Pradesh, even as efforts are on to transform it into a smart city. With three world heritage monuments, the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, two under consideration, Sikandra and Itmad-ud-daula, and dozens of other historical structures, Agra is "highly qualified" to be designated as a heritage city, say conservationists. Cure.fit unveils expansion plans

Health and wellness startup Cure.fit has plans for aggressive expansion in various cities in the country in the next few years. The company has recently raised 120 million USD, co-founder Mukesh Bansal told reporters here today. He was flanked by Bollywood star Hritik Roshan, who is the company's brand ambassador. Tour operator Thomas Cook is evacuating all of its customers from a hotel in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Hurghada after two Britons died there this week under unclear circumstances. The move came after John and Susan Cooper, from Burnley in northern England, died while staying at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel. They were on a holiday with other family members. Their daughter, Kelly Ormerod, was with her parents and her three children when tragedy struck.
