Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was Tuesday awarded the third Sayaji Ratna Award, established in the memory of erstwhile Baroda ruler Sayajirao Gaekwad III. The Baroda Management Association had, in 2013, instituted the award to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the ruler, known for undertaking major social reform measures during his rule in the early twentieth century. The Rajasthan election office on Tuesday rejected 613 nominations of candidates for the Assembly polls after scrutiny. A total of 3,295 candidates had filed 4,288 nominations for 200 seats and 613 nominations were rejected following scrutiny, a release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said. Nomination process had started on November 12 and the last date for withdrawing names is Thursday. Assembly polls are due in the state on December 7.
A video of a cat purportedly nibbling at the body of a woman at the government hospital here has gone viral triggering outrage, even as the management Tuesday said the cat was only trying to lick the leg of the deceased. The woman was admitted to the hospital on November 16 after she was found lying at the bus-stand at Mettupalayam in the district, police said Tuesday. According to the police, the doctors said she was mentally disturbed and had poor health parameters before she died Monday night. An attender at the hospital noticed the woman's body semi-nude and lying on the floor with the cat trying to bite the lower part of a leg, they said. On information, the hospital staff shifted the body to the mortuary, the police said. When contacted by reporters, the hospital dean B Asokan said the cat was only trying to lick the body and not nibbling at it. Runghi, who is credited to be the person behind making Itanagar as the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, died on Sunday night following prolonged illness. He was 84. : Two women, one of them pregnant, have died of swine flu at the government hospital here, sources in the facility said Tuesday. Twentytwo-year-old Baby, hailing from Tirupur, was hospitalised on November 17 with fever and tested positive for swine flu, the sources said. The pregnant woman died Monday night, they said. Similarly, 50-year-old Veerammal from Pollachi in the district, who had been undergoing treatment for swine flu since November 18, also died, the sources said. Since October, 62 people have died of various types of fever, including swine flu and dengue, both in the government and private hospitals here, they said.
