Rare bottle of Scotch whisky fetches record price

An extremely rare bottle of whisky was sold for a new world record at auction in Edinburgh on Wednesday. The 60-year-old Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 was sold at Bonhams for a total ?848,750 (about $1.09 million, 947,000 euros) beating a previous bottle from the same cask that was sold in Hong Kong in May for ?814,081. Richard Harvey, a drinks expert at Bonhams, told AFP: "The buyer is from the Far East where there has been an enormous interest in whisky. "Whisky bars are opening up in the Far East everywhere, so there is a huge interest," he said. In general, about "a third to 40 percent of our sales go out to buyers in the Far East," he said. Bonhams now holds the record for the three most valuable bottles of whisky ever sold at auction. Martin Green, a Bonhams whisky specialist in Edinburgh, said: "It is a great honour to have established a new world record, and particularly exciting to have done so here in Scotland, the home of whisky." Naga insurgent leader Muivah admitted to hospital

Thuingaleng Muivah, the general secretary of the Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM, has been admitted to a hospital here following complaints of abdominal pain, sources said on Wednesday. The 84-year-old Naga rebel leader has been admitted to the private hospital Tuesday and the doctors are keeping a close watch on his health condition. Muivah's treatment is going on, the sources said without disclosing much. Muivah was the signatory on behalf of the NSCN-IM to a framework agreement with the government in 2015 to end the decades-old Naga insurgency. The Naga leader's long time associate, the outfit's chairman Isak Chishi Swu, passed away in 2016. S S Khaplang, the leader of NSCN-IM's rival group NSCN-K, too died in 2017, leading to a split in that outfit. Hit by bike, angry Camel kills boy

An 18-year-old boy was killed in Koko village in Kebbi state of north western Nigeria when the boy, riding a motorcycle without light, collided with a camel on a highway.In a bizarre incident, the enraged camel pushed the boy to the ground, bit him and climbed over his body, ultimately leading to his death.According to an eye-witness, Muhammadu Garba, the camel attacked the boy after he collided with the animal on his way back from a farm at dusk. Garba said that the boy, riding a motorcycle without light, ran into the camel which was crossing the road. Sikkim received two awards at the Swachh Bharat Diwas function organised by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, a state government release said Wednesday. Sikkim was awarded the first prize in the 'Cleanest State' category for the North-East region at the 'Swachh Bharat Puraskar 2018' awards. The award were given by Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti at the function on Tuesday, the release said.
