Lifting 210 kgs can ensure medal in any world level competition: Mirabai

World champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu Friday said that if she can lift up to 210 kg, she would be able to win medals in any world level competition. "I have lifted more than 192 kg. I have lifted 194 Kg in the World Championship and bagged the Gold medal. After that, I had lifted 196 Kg in the Commonwealth Games and that has been my best performance," Mirabai told reporters during a promotional event. "Now I will have to do better because of change in rule. We were earlier 48 kg athletes, but now we have to participate in 49 Kg category. Now the aim is to lift 210 Kgs and doing so I will ensure that I can win medals in every competition," she said. Hard to tell truth from fiction in Skripal affair: Kremlin

The Kremlin said Friday it was difficult to separate truth from fiction in media reports after a respected investigative group revealed the identity of a suspect in the poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal. Former Gujarat minister Manoharsinh Jadeja cremated

The mortal remains of former Gujarat minister and Congress leader Manoharsinh Jadeja were consigned to flames here Friday. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and several other leaders were present at Jadeja's cremation. Jadeja (83), a descendant of the erstwhile royal family of Rajkot, died at his house here Thursday. The departed leader's 'palkhi yatra' (funeral procession) began Friday morning from his house with his body placed in a silver chariot. He was also given a nine-gun salute. People thronged the streets to pay respects to Jadeja, popularly known as 'Dada'. Alongwith Rupani, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja also joined the procession. Jadeja's son Mandhatasinh lit the funeral pyre. Marathi writer Kavita Mahajan passes away

Noted Marathi writer and novelist Kavita Mahajan passed away here Thursday evening following a brief illness, family sources said. Mahajan, 51, was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award. She was suffering from pneumonia for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, sources said. Born on September 5, 1967 at Nanded in central Maharashtra, Mahajan was known for her critically acclaimed novels such as "Brr" and "Bhinna". She had received the Sahitya Akademi award for her Marathi translation of "Rajai", a collection of short stories by Urdu writer Ismat Chugtai. Mahajan is survived by her daughter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke with Naval office Abhilash Tomy who was rescued from high seas following a mishap during a solo circumnavigation sailing tour. The 39-year-old naval officer was left adrift 3,500 kilometres from western Australia with a serious back injury when he was rescued through an internationally coordinated effort on Monday.
