Mumbai cop en route to sister's funeral dies of heart attack
A 45-year-old police constable died of a heart attack in the morning today while he was on his way to attend his sister's funeral in Pune, an official said. Vijay More was posted with Azad Maidan police station in south Mumbai since 2015, he added. More's sister had died in Pune yesterday and the constable, along with relatives, was on his way to the attend the funeral when he suffered a heart attack near Vashi in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, the official informed. More was rushed to a nearby hospital where authorities declared him dead on arrival, he said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today said Somnath Chatterjee was the first person to call her over phone when she was given this role and he was the one whom she would always call for guidance on how to run Parliament. A home once owned by billionaire Howard Hughes has sold for USD 1.35 million. KNTV-TV reports the three-bedroom home located along a secluded desert road in Palm Springs, California, retains the style of the 1950s. It features a lagoon-shaped pool, and comedian Bob Hope was once a neighbour. The identity of the buyer was not immediately released. Hughes, who was an aviation tycoon and film mogul, lived in hotels during the final years of his life. He was 70-year-old when he died in 1976.
Cop, killed fighting terrorists, laid to rest with full honours
Police constable Parvez Ahmad, killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Srinagar, was laid to rest today with full honours at his ancestral village in Rajauri district near here with a large number of people, including senior Army and police officers, attending his last rites braving incessant rains. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced that former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will be given the highest state honour in the West Bengal Assembly.Banerjee also said that the mortal remains of Chatterjee would be taken to the private hospital where he had donated his body for medical research.Giving details of his last journey, the chief minister said, "Chatterjee's mortal remains will be taken from Belle Vue Clinic to the High Court since he was associated with it for quite a long time. From the court, he will be taken to the State Assembly where he will be given the highest state honour. Efforts will be made to accord Sanskrit the status of the second official language of Himachal Pradesh, a state minister said today. Himachal Urban Development minister Sarveen Choudhary said this at a function organised by Sanskrit Bharti Kangra at the Dhauladhar campus of Central University of Himachal Pradesh at Dharamshala in Kangra district.
