Hubble Telescope beams back stunning image of Milky Way's 'big sister'

The Hubble Space Telescope has beamed back a beautiful image of the Milky Way's 'big sister' - a stunning spiral galaxy that measures over 200,000 light-years across, NASA said. The image, taken by the Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3), shows that the galaxy called NGC 6744 is still actively producing new stars. NGC 6744 resembles our Milky Way, although it is much larger, measuring more than 200,000 light-years across compared to a 100,000-light-year diameter for our home galaxy. Like the Milky Way, NGC 6744 has a prominent central region packed with old yellow stars. Moving away from the galactic core, one can see shades of pink and blue in parts of the dusty spiral arms. While the blue sites are full of young star clusters, the pink ones are regions of active star formation, indicating that the galaxy is still very lively. In 2005, a supernova named SN 2005at was discovered within NGC 6744, adding to the argument of this galaxy's liveliness. SN 2005at is a Type Ic supernova, ...

We make this with help of a machine, which produces logs sufficient for four funerals daily," Rajkumar Sahu, President of the organisation which produces the logs told ANI.Mayor of Raipur, Pramod Dubey said this will put a brake to the cutting of trees in the state."To obtain wood for funeral, large number of trees are cut. Netaji kin asks Hindus to shun goat meat, sparks Twitter row

A war of words had erupted on Twitter between Netaji's grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose and Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy on whether the goat, too, should be considered as "mothers" by the Hindus. Bose, the vice president of BJP's West Bengal unit, cited Mahatma Gandhi and his food habits on July 25 to put across his point that Hindus should stop eating goat meat. "Gandhi ji used to stay in my grandfather-Sarat Chandra Bose's house at 1 Woodburn Park in Kolkata. He demanded goat's milk! Two goats brought to the house for this purpose. Gandhi protector of Hindus treated goats as Mata by consuming goats milk. Hindus stop eating goat's meat (sic)," Bose tweeted. In response, Tathagata Roy said neither Gandhiji nor Netaji revered goats as mothers. "Neither Gandhiji nor your grandfather ever said goats were Mata-that's your conclusion. Nor did Gandhiji (or anyone else) ever proclaim that he was the protector of Hindus. We Hindus regard the cow as our mother, not the goat. ...

I was reluctant but joined NADA panel on request of Rathore: Sehwag

His absence from the hearings of a NADA panel raising eyebrows, former India opener Virender Sehwag today said he was reluctant to be a part of the committee and joined only because Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had requested. Sehwag said he always felt that only Olympians should have been on the committee and not cricketers. Sehwag, who was inducted into the six-member Anti Doping Appeals Panel (ADAP) of NADA in November 2017, has not been able to attend any hearing till date. "I feel former Olympians should be a part of the NADA panels rather than cricketers. The sportspersons in Olympic categories are more in sync with working procedure of NADA," Sehwag told PTI today. "The Olympians know more than someone like me about anti-doping codes. I was initially reluctant about being a part of the panel," Sehwag, who is known to speak his mind, said. "I have always been a part of BCCI and I have rarely undergone dope tests, save the ICC tournaments that we played. So I have no

Is Piyush Goyal 'caretaker' FM?

Is Piyush Goyal the "caretaker" Finance Minister? Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Ray today posed this question to Goyal in the Lok Sabha while participating in a debate on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill. "Before I start my speech, I would like to ask a question. Is Piyush Goyal a caretaker Finance Minister or a full-fledged Finance Minister," Ray said. Goyal was present in the House when Ray made the remark. To this, Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai remarked that Goyal has already said in his speech that Arun Jaitley is the Finance Minister. Muslim woman who moved SC against Nikah Halala claims death threats

A Muslim woman from Uttar Pradesh's Sikandrabad, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking abolition of Nikah Halala practice earlier this month, today alleged that she has received death threats from her husband. The woman, Farzana, had claimed in her petition that she had been illegally divorced by her husband, leaving her and their daughter without any means of living or financial support. "From the day I have filed the petition my husband has been pressuring me to withdraw it and has even threatened to kill me. He has also told me that going to the Supreme Court will not help me and I will be forced to do halala," Farzana told reporters here. The practice of Nikah-Halala requires a divorced woman to marry someone else, consummate the marriage and then get a divorce in order to again marry her first husband under the Muslim personal law.
