Security officials were thrown into a tizzy when a man from Mysore called up the BJP headquarters control room on Saturday morning and threatened to blow it up. The call, however, turned out to be a hoax."BJP headquarters control room received a hoax bomb call today. Delhi Police is conducting an investigation. Delhi University Friday issued guidelines and venue details for the trials for the aspirants seeking admission under sports category. The sports trials will commence from July 2 and culminate on July 6. There are 27 sports that are part of the sports quota. These include 24 sports that are part of various high-profile competitions like Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and three popular sports. The sports trial for athletics will happen at the University Polo ground in Kingsway Camp on July 2, the varsity said. A man, who hacked and injured a woman at a suburban railway station here a week ago and inflicted wounds on himself, died at a hospital here Friday, police said. The man, who was in coma, did not respond to treatment and died around noon, a Government Railway Police officer told PTI. Last Friday night, the man had hacked the woman with a sickle at the Chetpet railway station after having heated arguments over his proposal to marry her. The accused then injured himself with the same weapon, before jumping on the railway track, police had said. Both of them, natives of Erode and knew each other, were admitted to two separate government hospitals. The woman was still undergoing treatment, the officer said. The incident, which brought back memories of the murder of a young woman techie in 2016 in Nungambakkam railway station here, stunned people on the platform.

The number of infant deaths in Maharashtra has risen over the last three years, with 16,539 newborns losing their lives in 2018-19 alone, the state government admitted in the Legislative Assembly on Friday. In a written reply, Health Minister Eknath Shinde said these infant deaths were caused due to infection, pneumonia, less weight and breathing defect at birth and not because of lack of facilities like incubators, ventilators or expert medical attention. As per the report of the Health Management Information System (HMIS), 16,539 newborn babies died in 2018-19, he said. In 2016-17, the number of infant deaths was 10,384, while it was 13,069 in 2017-18, the minister said. As per the HMIS report, in April-August 2017, Solapur district alone witnessed deaths of 309 infants. Shinde said the state government has now set the target of bringing down the infant mortality rate to 10 per 1,000 live births by 2030. Author Amish Tripathi has been named the director of London's Nehru Centre, which is under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, a senior ICCR official said. Author of best-selling books like the Secret of the Nagas and Sita - Warrior of Mithila, Tripathi will take over from diplomat Srinivas Gotru. Gotru's four-year tenure ended early this year. Tripathi was appointed after he applied for the post followed by an interview with a selection panel, ICCR president Vinay Sahasrabudhe has said.
