8 lions from Gujarat to be shifted to UP zoo
Eight lions from Gujarat will soon be shifted to a zoo in Uttar Pradesh as part of an animal exchange programme, a forest official said on Tuesday. These lions are currently lodged at the Sakkarbaug zoo at Junagadh in Gujarat. "As part of the animal exchange programme, two lions and six lionesses from Sakkarbaug will be shifted to a zoo at Gorakhpur in UP. The Central Zoo Authority has allowed the transfer of eight big cats," Junagadh wildlife circle's chief conservator of forests Dushyant Vasavada said. However, it was not yet decided as to which animal will be transferred from Gorakhpur to Gujarat under the exchange pact, he said. "We are ready for the transfer. Now, it is for the Gorakhpur zoo to decide on the time," Vasavada said. Eleven white-painted elephants, their tusks garlanded, have gathered with their handlers before Bangkok's Grand Palace to pay respects to Thailand's newly crowned king. Hundreds of mahouts, or handlers, dressed in royal yellow sang the royal anthem and kneeled with their elephants Tuesday before a portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The ceremony followed a gathering of thousands of Thais before the palace a day earlier to view the king and his family as they waved from a balcony. The elephants trumpeted at the end of the ceremony. Thais consider white elephants a sacred symbol of royal power. An elephant adorned the national flag until 1917. Vajiralongkorn took the throne after the 2016 death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reigned for seven decades.

A semi-naked body of a woman who was allegedly raped and was recovered from a forest in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, police said.The body of the woman who is in her early twenties was found in a forest at Deolond.According to police, the woman who is in her early twenties was allegedly raped and her throat slit with a sharp object.
