Former Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar has sought time to vacate the official bungalow saying she needs time to make an alternative arrangement, a senior university official said on Saturday. The university is yet to respond to Akhtar's request which has been pending with the registrar's office for over a month. The official, who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity, said "Professor Najma has written a letter to the university administration requesting to get an extension on her stay in the VC lodge till she can make an alternative arrangement." According to the Central government rules, an employee has to vacate the official residence within a month from the date of end of tenure. Akhtar's tenure ended on November 12 last year. Jamia, however, doesn't follow any prescribed time limit within which an outgoing Vice-Chancellor must vacate the official residence, an official from the VC office said. President Droupadi Murmu attended the first convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Central University in East Champaran district of Bihar on Thursday. Governor Rajendra Arlekar and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were also present at the ceremony held in Motihari, where East Champaran is headquartered. Later, in the evening, she is scheduled to address the convocation ceremony of AIIMS-Patna. At the Raj Bhavan, where the president is putting up, she is also scheduled to interact with members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of Bihar. Murmu arrived in the state on Wednesday on a three-day tour, the first since she got elected to the top constitutional post last year. Her Bihar tour will conclude on Friday with a visit to Gaya where she will grace the third convocation of Central University of South Bihar, an official statement said. Security has been beefed up across the state in view of Murmu's visit.
The Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha in Maharashtra has resigned, a senior official from the university said on Monday. BS Mirge, public relations officer of the university, confirmed that Vice Chancellor Professor Rajneesh Kumar Shukla had resigned. L Karunyakara, who is the senior most professor of the university, will be acting VC, Mirge told PTI. "Professor Shukla has sent his resignation to the President (who is a visitor at the university). The reason for the resignation is not known," Mirge said. Shukla's exit comes amid a controversy over his alleged chats with a woman.
The application window for CUET-UG reopened Sunday for three days following representation from students and there will be no change in the syllabus after rationalisation of NCERT textbooks, officials said. "Following requests from several students, we have decided to re-open the application portal for CUET-UG on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and it will close at 11.59 pm on Tuesday (11 April 2023). Students are requested to visit cuet.samarth.ac.in for more details," UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said. Nearly 14 lakh students have applied for CUET-UG, up by 41 per cent since last year. Following rationalisation of NCERT books, aspirants of undergraduate entrance exams were confused about whether it will impact the entrances. "The notified syllabus will remain the same as the exam is not just for students from a particular board.
