IIT Mandi start up to launch world's first AI-backed giant swing in Manali

Four engineer friends have claimed to have innovated a giant swing backed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) which will provide an "impeccable" security to the jumpers with more than 100 jump styles. The swing was built under a startup incubated at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, and is claimed to be a first-of-its-kind in the world. Founded by four childhood friends who are also certified rock climbers and mountaineers, ManaliSwing' has completed its human jump trials and is in the process of filing patents -- five in number -- for concept and design. The team plans to launch the swing in Manali on coming New Year. One of the team's members claimed that it has already been approached by the Dubai government to launch the swing in the country and is in conversation with interested agencies in Switzerland too. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment of directors to eight IITs, including two who have been reappointed for a second term, according to the education ministry. Directors of two IITs have been appointed at the top post at different IITs, including IIT Bhilai Director Rajat Moona, who has been appointed as director of IIT Gandhinagar while IIT Dharwad Director Pasumarthy Seshu has been chosen as director of IIT Goa. The two IIT directors who have been reappointed for a second term are -- K N Satyanarayana (IIT Tirupati) and Manoj Singh Gaur (IIT Jammu). President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday stressed on the need to make educational institutions future ready and said India has a great talent pool which is yet to be fully tapped. The president was addressing the closing ceremony of diamond jubilee celebrations of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. "India has great talent pool which is yet to be fully tapped. We need to make our institutes future ready with new teaching and learning metrics, pedagogy and content," she said. Over 4,500 faculty positions vacant in 23 IITs: Govt to Rajya Sabha

Over 4,500 faculty positions are vacant in 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Ministry of Education informed the Rajya Sabha. According to data shared with the Upper House of Parliament, IITs in Kharagpur with 798 vacancies and Bombay with 517 vacancies have the most faculty positions vacant. The top-ranked IIT-Madras too has 482 faculty positions lying vacant. A total of 4,596 teaching positions are vacant in the IITs. "Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and IITs issue rolling advertisements, which are open throughout the year for all candidates, who fulfil the required qualifications and experience for faculty positions in IITs, said Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar in a written reply. "The Ministry of Education has requested all IITs to fill up the vacancies in faculty cadre through a special recruitment drive in mission mode and most of the IITs have initiated the process," he added.
