India receives highest FDI from Singapore in 2023-24, Mauritius follows

India received the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) from Singapore in 2023-24 even as overseas capital inflows into the country contracted by about 3.5 per cent due to global economic uncertainties, according to the latest government data. Though FDI from Singapore has dipped by 31.55 per cent to USD 11.77 billion in 2023-24, India has attracted the maximum inflows from that country, the data showed. During the last fiscal, FDI equity inflows decreased from major countries, including Mauritius, Singapore, the US, the UK, UAE, Cayman Islands, Germany, and Cyprus. However, investments increased from the Netherlands and Japan. Since 2018-19, Singapore has been the largest source of such investments for India. In 2017-18, India attracted the maximum FDI from Mauritius. According to experts, after the India-Mauritius tax treaty amendment, Singapore has emerged as the preferred jurisdiction for investment in India. Govt assisting five nations develop early warning systems, says IMD chief

India is helping Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Mauritius develop early warning systems to reduce the loss of life and property due to extreme weather events, IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has said. In a conversation with PTI editors, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) director general said India will play the role of a big brother and a peer advisor to Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Mauritius in the efforts to guard against the impact of extreme weather events. India's efforts are part of the 'Early Warnings for All' initiative announced by the United Nations in 2022 to ensure that everyone is protected from hazardous weather, water or climate events through life-saving early warning systems by the end of 2027. UPI payments launched in Sri Lanka, Mauritius to boost economic ties

India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services were on Monday rolled out in Sri Lanka and Mauritius during a virtual ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the top leadership of the two island nations. Mauritian PM Pravind Jugnauth and Sri Lanka's President Ranil Wickremesinghe joined Modi at the virtual ceremony. The launch of the Indian services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius came amid New Delhi's increasing bilateral economic ties with the two countries. India, Mauritius review vostro account mechanism, implementation of CECPA

India and Mauritius carried out a comprehensive review of their overall ties including the vostro account mechanism for settlement of trade transactions and the proposed launch of Indian Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system and RuPay card in the African country. The two sides took stock of the bilateral cooperation during Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra's three-day visit to Mauritius that concluded on Friday. The Indian High Commission in Port Louis said the two sides also delved into their Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA), which was inked on February 22, 2021. Kwatra on Thursday called on Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and discussed bilateral cooperation in areas of capacity building, trade and investment. It was the foreign secretary's first official visit to Mauritius, a key partner and trusted friend of India under India's 'neighbourhood first' policy and SAGAR (Security and Growth For All in the Region) vision for the Indian Ocean.
