Historic victory: PM hails Indian women's team for Kho Kho World Cup win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian women's team on winning the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup and said the triumph brought more spotlight to one of India's oldest traditional sports. The Indian women's team won the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup with a dominant 78-40 victory in the summit clash against Nepal here on Sunday. On a memorable night at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, India produced a masterclass of speed, strategy and skill, dishing out a clinical show. "Congratulations to the Indian women's team on winning the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup! This historic victory is a result of their unparalleled skill, determination and teamwork," Modi said in a post on X. This triumph has brought more spotlight to one of India's oldest traditional sports, inspiring countless young athletes across the nation, he said. "May this achievement also pave the way for more youngsters to pursue this sport in the times to come," the prime minister added.

Govt approves Rs 11,440 crore for debt-laden Rashtriya Ispat Nigam revival

The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 11,440 crore revival plan for debt-laden Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), according to a statement released on Friday. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the revival plan for RINL for Rs 11,440 crore, it added. The infusion includes Rs 10,300 crore as equity capital into RINL and conversion of Rs 1,140 crore working capital loan as 7 per cent non-cumulative preference share capital redeemable after 10 years to keep RINL as a going concern, the official statement said. With this revival package, many of the legacy problems that RINL used to face will be resolved, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The equity infusion of Rs 10,300 crore into RINL will help it overcome the operational problems related to raising working capital and start blast furnace operations in the most productive way, the statement said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the second edition of Bharat Mobility Global Expo on Friday which is expected to witness over 100 new launches across automobiles, component products and technologies. One year on, Atal Setu registers average daily traffic of 22,689 vehicles

India's longest sea bridge Atal Setu (formerly Mumbai Trans Harbour Link or MTHL), inaugurated a year ago, recorded an average traffic of fewer than 23,000 vehicles per day, lower than the initiation projections of handling more than 56,000 vehicles daily. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nearly 22-km-long bridge, which connects Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai, on January 12, 2024, marking the completion of a major infrastructure project in the state. In a release on Monday, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said Atal Setu was "emerging as a symbol of modern infrastructure, safety, and efficiency". The bridge that crosses over the Thane creek facilitated the movement of 83,06,009 vehicles over the past year, significantly contributing to smoother and faster transit between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, said the state-run agency.
