A leading diaspora organisation here has strongly rejected and called out the communal hate and bigotry against its annual India Day parade after it announced that a tableau of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir will be displayed at the event to be held in Manhattan this week. Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-CT-NE (FIA) had announced that a tableau featuring the Ayodhya Ram Mandir will be the highlight of the India Day parade that will be organised in the heart of Manhattan on August 18 to commemorate India's Independence Day. FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya said that the India Day Parade, which has been held annually for four decades, has been targeted by hate-filled bigotry for including the Ram Mandir float. A coalition of human rights and interfaith organisations have condemned the inclusion of the Ram Mandir float in the parade and have written to New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams urging them to condemn and oppose the inclusion of an anti-Muslim float at t

Most Indian Americans back PM Modi's third term, says Diaspora leader

Majority of Indian Americans favour a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his government's policies are transforming India, an influential community leader has said. Indians are part of the deep economic growth of the United States and they've been working hard to contribute to the economic growth, Indian-American Democratic fundraiser Ajay Jain Bhaturia said, underling that when they see similar economic growth happening back in India, they feel very proud of it. I think the majority of Indian Americans want Prime Minister Modi to come back. It's a sense of pride for them that when India shines, they shine, Bhaturia told PTI in an interview. They feel proud that India is rising, India is growing. India has been growing at almost a much faster rate of economic growth, six to seven per cent. When I'm reading the statistics, it says that it'll overtake Japan by the end of this year to become the fourth largest economy. And maybe by 2027, India would be the third largest ...

Indian body in US seeks flexibility in issuing job authorisation card

Coming to the defence of thousands of Indian-Americans languishing in the decades-old green card backlog, an Indian diaspora body has urged the Biden Administration to relax the rules of issuing employment authorisation cards. Around 1.1 million Indian-origin non-immigrant visa holders are waiting for their priority date to become current to apply for an I-485 for a green card, the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) said, adding that the country-wise limit of seven per cent restricts their annual approval, causing almost 135 years of delays, and estimated more than 400,000 would not see permanent residency in their lifetime. Issuing Employment Authorisation Cards during the early stages of green card processing would help a large number of Indian Americans, their spouse and grown-up kids from a lot of uncertainties and distress, FIIDS said. Recognising the imperative of maintaining America's competitive advantage, it is crucial to acknowledge the immense ...
