The railway ministry on Tuesday released its new time table of trains effective from October 1. The highlights of the new time table are the induction of 64 Vande Bharat trains along with 70 other train services. "The new time table is designed to enhance connectivity between various cities and reduce travel time. Passengers are advised to check the departure and arrival timings as per the new timetable, the railway ministry said while issuing the new all-India railway time table known as 'Trains at a Glance (TAG)'. The new time table has included 64 services of Vande Bharat trains and 70 other train services to offer passengers a comfortable and efficient travel experience," the ministry added. Besides, 90 train services have been extended to other destinations and the frequency of 12 train services has been enhanced. Indian Railways is going to introduce ramps in trains for the convenience of wheelchair users and senior citizens, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. Releasing the pictures of the newly designed ramps, Vaishnaw told reporters that these have been used at the Chennai railway station and found to be helpful for passengers who require a ramp. "We will start its use in Vande Bharat trains very soon and later, in all other trains," the minister said, adding that a system is being worked out to let passengers raise a need for a wheelchair at the time of booking tickets. "An alert can be generated and passed on to the respective railway stations for keeping a ramp ready for such passengers," he added. The ramp can be easily placed at train doors and because of its width and low gradient, wheelchair users will find it easy to use it, the minister said. Vaishnaw also said that during its trial, feedback received from passengers was extremely positive and encouraging.
The Indian Railways utilised 59 per cent of its total capital expenditure in the first six months of the financial year 2023-24, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. This was made possible as the railways carried out 38 structural and procedural reforms in these six months, which helped improve its overall performance, he told reporters. "Our total budget for 2023-24 is Rs 2.4 lakh crore, out of which we have already spent Rs 1.4 lakh crore in the first half of the current financial year. This is 59 per cent of the total budget," Vaishnaw said. New sequential numbering of platforms will adopted at the Dadar junction here with effect from December 9, the Central Railway said on Wednesday. Platform numbers at the station, one of the busiest in the city, have been revised in order to reduce confusion among commuters, it said in a release. Of the total 15 platforms at Dadar junction, platform numbers one to seven are on the Western Railway side, and their numbering will remain unchanged. The existing one to eight platforms on the Central Railway side will be numbered from eight to 14. Thus, the existing platform number one on the Central Railway side will become platform number eight. As the existing platform number two is being merged to expand the present platform number one, platform number three will be numbered as nine in the new system.
More than 1.5 lakh individuals participated in the first nine days of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, dedicating about five lakh man-hours to the exercise since it was launched on September 15, the railway ministry said on Tuesday. The railways runs a cleanliness campaign from September 15 to 30 every year for a cleaner and more sanitised railway system. This year there is a special emphasis on the cleanliness of railway tracks at stations, approaches to major stations, and the elimination of plastic waste from railway premises. "It is a multifaceted approach to ensure that every nook and cranny of the railway network adheres to the principles of cleanliness and sustainability," the ministry said. North Western Railway plans to implement the Kavach anti-collision system in the zone, spread across Rajasthan and Haryana, within the next two years, a senior railway official said on Monday. The North Western Railway operates three Vande Bharat Express trains which are equipped with Kavach, the indigenously developed train protection system, the official said. However, the anti-collision device cannot be used in the railway zone as the system has not been implemented in this part of the country yet. "We have awarded tenders worth Rs 426 crore for Kavach to be rolled out on 1,600 km across the zone," the official said, adding that the LTE survey to ascertain the availability of 4G and 5G networks along the route is underway. The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the final location survey (FLS) for a new line between Jajpur Keonjhar Road and Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district, a stretch of 96 km, official sources said. The ministry has sanctioned Rs 2.4 crore for conducting the survey. Important religious and tourist destinations like Akhandalamani temple at Aradi Pitha and Navigaya at Birajakhetra, Jajpur district headquarters town will be covered, an official release issued by the East Coast Railways said. The Railway Board has directed that employees of the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) be shifted to railway zones, citing that its present electrification assignment is ending and no new work has been allotted to it. The CORE had electrified 58,812 route kilometers (RKM) of the Indian Railway's broad-gauge network by March 31, 2023, which is 90 per cent of the total network (65,300 RKM). The present electrification assignment to the CORE is coming to an end and no new work has been allotted to it, the board's office memorandum dated September 11, 2023, stated. "The Ministry of Railways is upgrading track electrification for high speed trains and for that it has approved 2x25 kV electric traction upgrade work, but somewhere I believe that the board is of the view that there is no need to continue with CORE for this project and it can be done by the respective zones," a source in the railways said.
