India should step up, support sovereignty, territorial integrity: US NSA

India should step up and support the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, US NSA Jake Sullivan said on Saturday, referring to the Russia-Ukraine war ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden. The war and Modi's recent visit to Ukraine is expected to figure prominently in the Modi-Biden bilateral meeting at the US president's Wilmington residence in Delaware on the margins of the Quad summit later in the day, the National Security Adviser said. I won't go too deep into the details of what Biden will say on those issues which are obviously sensitive and will obviously be critical priorities in the bilateral meeting, he said in response to a question. The United States has been clear about our view that Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine flouted every norm and principle of international law, (and) that countries like India should step up and support the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, Sullivan

India, US agree to streamline funding for research projects, says NSF

In a significant move, India and the United States have signed an agreement that would streamline the selection and funding process of research projects between scientists and engineers from the two countries. The opportunities under the arrangement are broad and can nimbly adjust to strategic priorities and researcher interests in computer science and engineering, geosciences, math and physical sciences, engineering, and emerging technologies, the National Science Foundation (NSF), an independent agency of the US that supports fundamental research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering, said on Wednesday. "Through the creation of these opportunities, we are emphasising to the science and technology communities and the world that our governments are serious about breaking down barriers and facilitating collaboration," said NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan. India will cut import tariff on pecans by 70 per cent: Senator Jon Ossoff

India has agreed to reduce the import tariff on pecans by 70 per cent, said an influential American Senator, who has been campaigning on it for the last one year. Senator Jon Ossoff, who represents Georgia in the US Senate and met seven times with India's Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu over the last year, on Wednesday said that the reduction in tariff on pecans would help the farmers in his constituency. Today I can announce that after a year of painstaking diplomacy, the Indian government will cut that tariff by 70 per cent. This is a huge win for Georgia pecan farmers, and it wouldn't be possible without them, Ossoff said. Ossoff said India's high pecan tariffs have prevented Georgia pecan exports to this market of more than one billion consumers. He thanked US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai for her steadfast support, Sandhu for his constructive engagement, Senator Warnock for his teamwork, and Georgia's farmers for their perseverance to secure this ...
