Amid rescue operations underway in Uttarakhand at the Silkyara tunnel site, a C-17 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force has been deployed to airlift almost 22 tonnes of critical equipment from Indore to Dehradun, officials said on Friday. Working round-the-clock with a powerful machine, rescue workers have drilled through up to 24 metres of rubble in the Silkyara tunnel till Friday afternoon, inching closer to the 40 labourers trapped inside for five days. "The IAF has continued with its operations to assist the ongoing tunnel rescue underway at Dharasu, Uttarakhand. An IAF C-17 has been deployed to airlift almost 22 Tonnes of critical equipment from Indore to Dehradun. #FirstResponders #HADROps," the IAF posted on X. It also shared images of the C-17 aircraft and a machine on-board in its post.
As many as 35 persons were injured on Monday during 'Hingot' festivities in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, an official said. The several decade old festival, held a day after Diwali, sees residents of Gautampura and Rungi villages throw flaming "hingots", a forest fruit, that have been hollowed out and filled with gunpowder, coal and brimstone. "As many as 35 persons sustained minor injuries. They were given primary treatment by a team of doctors at the site. One person has sustained serious burn injuries and is admitted in the primary health centre. His condition is stable," Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Abhilash Shivriya said. A large people had gathered to watch the festival, for which all arrangements were made by the administration, Deputy Superintendent of Police Umakant Chaudhary said. As per the norms of the festival, residents of Gautampura are called 'turra' and those from Runji are called 'kalgi'. Deaths too have taken place in the past years amid the festival.

Madhya Pradesh has won the best 'State Award' and Tamil Nadu bagged the second spot. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh was on the third spot jointly. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate National Smart City Convention on September 27 at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on July 30 (Sunday) to visit the birthplace of Lord Parshuram and address Bharatiya Janata Party workers, a BJP national office-bearer said on Thursday. The fourth and final meeting of the Employment Working Group (EWG) of G20 began in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city on Wednesday, with an aim to find solutions to the current global challenges in the areas of labour, employment and social security of workers, officials said. The police has banned the flying of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles from July 19 to 22 in view of the G20 meeting to be held in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a police official said on Monday. Police Commissioner Makrand Deuskar said drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other objects have been banned under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) within a three-kilometre radius of the G20 meet venue, hotel where the delegates will stay, as well as other identified places. "The ban will be in place from July 19 to 22 to ensure the safety of around 150 domestic and foreign delegates attending the meeting. More than 600 police personnel have been deployed for security," he said. As per officials, the first two days of G20 event will see meetings of the 4th Employment Working Group, while on the third day, Labour and Employment Ministers of member countries will hold a meet.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Sunday reviewed the preparations for a three-day meeting of the G20, which is slated to begin from July 19 in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. The fourth employment working group meeting will be held in the first two days, while a meeting of the labour and employment ministers of G20 countries will be held on the third day, officials said. Goods worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in a massive fire at a vegetable-fruit market in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon, police said. There was no report of any casualty in the incident that occurred at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar market around 1 pm, they said. According to eyewitnesses, some empty boxes of mangoes caught fire due to a short circuit in an electric pole inside the market located at Choithram Square in the city, and the blaze soon spread. "The fire was brought under control after hours of efforts and there was no report of any casualty," Superintendent of Police (Fire) Padmavilochan Shukla said. Apart from the goods kept in the shops, the cabin of a goods-carrying vehicle was damaged in the fire, another police official said.
