Tata Group will give jobs to 4,000 women from Uttarakhand at its plants in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Its Chief Human Resource Officer Ranjan Bandopadhyay has written a letter to this effect to the state planning department, an official release said here on Monday. The recruitment process will begin soon, it said. Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd will appoint 4,000 women candidates from Uttarakhand at its plants in Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Kolar in Karnataka under the NPS and NATS programmes, the release said. Those who have cleared class 10 or 12 examinations are eligible for NPS programmes, while for NATS an ITI diploma is necessary in addition to these, it said. After selection, they will be appointed as shop floor technicians. Apart from a fixed salary, they will also get accommodation, food, transportation and other facilities, it said.

The overall job market showed a positive momentum as hiring activity in July rose by 11 per cent compared to the same month of last year, a report said on Wednesday. According to the Foundit Insights Tracker (fit), hiring activity was down 1 per cent on a month-on-month (MoM) basis. Coimbatore has emerged as the leader in job growth among India's Tier-II cities, with a 24 per cent increase in hiring, followed by Jaipur with a 23 per cent rise. The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 15.92 lakh new members in November 2023, according to provisional payroll data released on Tuesday. Around 20,830 new establishments were registered and brought under the social security umbrella of ESIC in November ensuring more coverage, the labour ministry said in a statement. The data shows that more jobs were generated for the youth during the month as out of the total 15.92 lakh employees added, 7.47 lakh, which constituted 47 per cent of the total registrations, were up to the age group of 25 years. Net enrolment of female members was 3.17 lakh in November 2023, according to the data. A total of 58 transgender employees were registered under ESI Scheme in November. It shows that ESIC is committed to delivering its benefits to every section of the society, the ministry stated. The payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise.

Generative AI is likely to become a much greater threat for white-collar roles, such as accounting and book-keeping, rather than blue-collar jobs, a report said on Monday. Many administrative roles involve repetitive tasks such as scheduling appointments or answering and directing calls, which can easily be replicated by generative AI, according to global learning company Pearson's Skills Outlook report -- 'Gen AI Proof Jobs'. The report cited that in India around 30 per cent or more time spent on some white-collar tasks every week can be performed by generative AI. However, generative AI can do less than 1 per cent of a blue collar workers' job in a week, it said. "As employees look to the future, understanding which jobs are at risk from AI allows them to prepare.
