SpiceJet Q400 aircraft loses wheel after take-off, lands safely in Mumbai

A SpiceJet aircraft's wheel fell off after take-off from Kandla airport on Friday and the plane made an emergency landing at Mumbai airport, according to sources. "On September 12, an outer wheel of a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating from Kandla to Mumbai was found at the runway after take-off. The aircraft continued its journey to Mumbai and landed safely," the airline said in a statement. Following a smooth landing, the aircraft taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked normally, the airline said. Sources said the aircraft made an emergency landing at Mumbai airport. A Q400 aircraft has six tyres. Details about the number of passengers onboard the aircraft could not be immediately ascertained.

Kandla Port vows to ease vessel congestion for smooth edible oil imports

Gujarat's Kandla Port has pledged to address vessel congestion issues and ensure uninterrupted edible oil supplies, the Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association (IVPA) said on Monday. The assurance came during a meeting between industry representatives and Kandla Port Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, aimed at resolving bottlenecks that have affected imports of palm oil and other edible oils. Singh outlined infrastructure improvements, including new 14-inch pipelines and preparations to handle edible oil at two additional berths with dedicated pipelines, the IVPA said in a statement. The port authority agreed to maintain its existing system of imposing penalty charges for delayed vessel discharges rather than moving ships to outer anchorage for re-berthing, which creates additional costs for importers, the association said. Singh emphasised the need for coordination between port officials and importers to minimise delays after vessels dock, and urged vessel agents to flag potential .

APSEZ, DPA to develop multipurpose berth at Gujarat's Kandla Port

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Wednesday said it has signed a concession agreement with DPA to develop Berth No 13 at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Gujarat. APSEZ has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, DPA Container and Clean Cargo Terminal Limited (DPACCCTL), that will carry out operations at the berth, it said in a statement. Berth will handle multipurpose cargo and is expected to be commissioned in FY27. In July 2024, APSEZ had received the LOI for the development, operation and maintenance of the berth for a 30-year concession period. According to the statement, APSEZ will develop the berth under DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model for multipurpose clean cargo, including container cargo. Berth No. 13 is 300 metres long and offers 5.7 MMT capacity annually. It is likely to be commissioned in FY27.
