Naresh Goyal-owned private carrier Jet Airways has deferred the March salaries of a section of its staff to April 10, citing "circumstances beyond its control." The city-headquartered full service airline in a communication to its employees today said that the salaries will be disbursed in a staggered manner with non-technical staff and other staff getting the pay on April 3 and the rest of the employees, including pilots and engineers, on April 10. "We regret to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control, the disbursal of March salary is postponed and the payroll will be run as per the schedule...," the airline said in the communication. As per the schedule, pilots, engineers and all manager and above level staff would be paid March salary on April 10. Jet Airways spokesperson was not available for comments.

The National Agitation Committee (NAC) today said it has proposed to the government that around 45 lakh pensioners would offer their one-month services for free as the Centre has so far not accepted their demands for increasing pension. This proposal was given by the NAC national president Ashok Raut in his meeting with Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar on March 22. The committee has demanded Rs 7,500 per month minimum pension under Employee Pension Scheme 1995 and pension based on higher salary. The 457 visa programme, used by over 95,000 foreign workers, majority of them Indians, was replaced on March 18 by a new Temporary Skills Shortage visa programme. The 457 visa programme allowed businesses to employ foreign workers for a period up to four years in skilled jobs where there was a shortage of Australian workers. The majority of the visa holders under the category were from India, accounting almost a quarter of the intake, followed by the UK and China at 19.5 per cent and 5.8 per cent respectively.
