Assam government has revised the minimum wages payable to employees or workers employed under private security agencies, an official release today said. According to a notification issued by the Labour Welfare Department, the state government, after consultation with the Minimum Wages Advisory Board, has revised the minimum wages of employees. The revised minimum wages of a security officer is Rs 18,700, supervisor Rs 15,600, gunman (armed) Rs 13,700 and Security Guard (Unarmed) Rs 10,700. Accommodation, Employers' Contribution of any EPF/ESI and any other social scheme is excluded from the minimum rates of wages. In addition to fixed rate of minimum wages, the employees shall be entitled to Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) at the rate of 100 per cent over rise and fall of Index Point in the All India Consumer Price Index for industrial workers calculated with reference to the wages of workers. The government today approved the continuation of Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) beyond the 12th Plan period for three years to 2019-20 with a total outlay of Rs 5,500 crore. The scheme will create sustainable estimated employment opportunities for 15 lakh persons in three financial years. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is the nodal implementation agency for the PMEGP at the national level. At the state/district level, state offices of KVIC, Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs) and District Industry Centres (DIC) are the implementing agencies. The vocational education ecosystem in its current form has not succeeded in creating adequate employable job seekers in India as more than 60 per cent candidates and employers find these courses ineffective, according to a survey. From an employment point of view, only 18 per cent of the students undergoing voc-ed (vocational education) courses get jobs, of which merely 7 per cent are formal jobs, according to TeamLease Services' research "Industry opportunity based vocational course design". The survey was conducted among 105 organisation and 65 students. The survey revealed that primary reasons for the disconnect between vocational education courses and the industry is the absence of rich academic content, inadequate funding and negative perception about these courses. Another key issue is the lack of awareness about these courses as well as the lack of scope for continued learning, it added. Moreover, voc-ed courses today do not have a structure for defined outcomes .
State-run SAIL today said its 148 employees have been conferred with the Prime Ministers Shram Awards. "A total of 148 SAIL employees, including five women received 34 prestigious Prime Ministers Shram awards. Of the 232 PSU awardees who were being awarded for the performance years 2011 to 2016, 64 per cent are from SAIL," the state-run steel maker said. The Rajasthan government is providing social security pension to 63.36 lakh people, including old-aged, differently-abled and widows, said the state's Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi today. Replying to a query on social security pension during Question Hour in Rajasthan Assembly, Chaturvedi informed the House that the pension was being provided to 48.92 lakh old-aged, 4.14 lakh differently-abled and 10.29 lakh widows. "It is an attempt of the state government to give pension to every eligible individual and for this the government has proposed more funds in the Budget this year," Chaturvedi said while answering a supplementary question raised by the ruling party legislator Bhawani Singh Rajawat. The Gujarat government today admitted in the Assembly that over 5.37 lakh youth were registered with employment offices across the state, while just over 12,000 got government jobs in the last two years. Responding to queries during the Question Hour on employment, Labour and Employment minister, Dilip Thakor, said that data made available by district employment offices showed that 5.37 lakh unemployed persons were registered with it as on December 31, 2017. He also informed the House that over 7.43 lakh persons got jobs, private as well as government ones, in 2016 and 2017. Of these, 12,869 managed to land government jobs while over 7.30 lakh were placed in the private sector, he said. District-wise data tabled in the House showed that Ahmedabad topped in the number of unemployed youth as well as those who got jobs. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today announced that one lakh unskilled and unemployed youths would be given skill training and connected with self-employment schemes in 2018.
