Indian Labour Conference has become a "talking show": CITU Prez
After the central government indefinitely postponed the 47th Indian Labour Conference, CPI(M)- affiliated trade union CITU's President K Hemalata has said that the event has become a "talk show" without any serious commitment of successive governments to it. Hemalata said the Congress-led governments "did not try to implement the conference's recommendations during its tenure, but the BJP government went a step ahead and has stopped organising the yearly two-day event for the past two years, excluding the postponed event". CAT dismisses petitions of 25 LARSGESS aspirants
The Ahmedabad Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal(CAT) has imposed a hefty fine of Rs 2 lakh each on 25 petitioners who had sought jobs in Railways under its 'LARGESS' scheme, held as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court a year ago. Dismissing the petitions, the CAT observed that the Liberalised Active Retirement Scheme for Guaranteed Employment of Safety Staff (LARSGESS) of Railways violated the fundamental rights of other meritorious candidates who were eligible for these jobs. Addressing a press conference here, Tribunal's Judicial Member K B Suresh, who passed the order yesterday, said the scheme, floated by the Railway Board many years ago, was a "back-door entry" for the wards of Railway employees. Haryana industrial training dept frames new transfer policy
The Haryana Skill Development and Industrial Training Department has framed a new transfer policy which would be implemented fromApril 1, 2018. All transfers would be made online from the new academic session. While stating this here today, Skill Development and Industrial Training Minister Vipul Goel said that there were total 6,288 sanctioned posts of field officers and employees in the department, including 55 posts of class I, 187 posts of class II and 6,046 posts of class III categories. The employees of diamond merchant Nirav Modi's firms, located in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) here, staged a protest today, demanding the payment of their salaries. The firms were unable to pay them after their bank accounts were frozen by the ED and the CBI in connection with the alleged Rs 11,400-crore scam at the Punjab National Bank (PNB), they claimed. HC asks Tirupati temple body not to sack non-Hindu staff till further orders
The Hyderabad High Court has directed the executive officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the famous Tirumala Venkateswara temple, not to terminate the services of its non-Hindu employees till further orders. A division bench of acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi was hearing petitions filed by some of these employees yesterday, challenging the show cause notices issued to them by the administration. The TTD recently issued notices to 42 non-Hindu employees, following allegations that they were 'propagating' other religions. Punjab government said today that over 45,000 jobs will be offered during the second phase of the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar' scheme. As many as 73,200 applicants have registered on the government portal in the hope of getting their employment letters at the 140 events being conducted at 56 venues here, said an official spokesman here. "For the second phase of the 'Mega Job Melas', organised by the state government from February 20 to March 8, a total of 1,689 employers have posted 45,747 job vacancies on the portal," he said. Workers at the world's largest carmaker Volkswagen said today they had secured a big pay bump, in line with the rest of Germany's powerful metalworking sector.
