Delhi govt to organise next job fair on Feb 15-16

The Delhi government will organise a two-day job fair starting from February 15 at Tyagraj Stadium here, Employment Minister Gopal Rai said today. As many as 100 companies are expected to participate in the job fair, according to an official statement released here. This is the third such job fair being organised by the Arvind Kejriwal government. Rai said interested candidates need to enroll themselves with the government's job portal to participate and select companies as per their educational qualification. "The two-day job fair will be organised from February 15 to February 16. In the fair, around 15,237 job offers will be available," the statement said. The first job fair was organised in December 2015 while the second one was held in November last year.

HC upholds tribunal order on sale of sugar unit to EID Parry

The Madras High Court has dismissed petitions challenging an industrial tribunal's order upholding sale of a sugar factory to EID Parry India Ltd in 1992 and also directed the company to offer re-employment to nearly 450 workers of the acquired firm. Justice V Parthiban upheld the tribunal's 2008 order and dismissed petitions filed by the union of erstwhile workers of the Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys Ltd's sugar factory in Pugalur in Tamil Nadu seeking their re-instatement and by EID Parry challenging the tribunal's direction to offer re-employment. Lauding the tribunal for striking a balance in adjudicating the dispute, the judge, in his recent order, noted that the principal aim of the Industrial Dispute Act was to achieve industrial peace and equity can play a pivotal and monumental role in achieving the same. Centre forcing states to reduce projected demand under MGNREGA: SC told

The Centre is "forcing" states to slash their projected demand for funds under the rural employment guarantee scheme due to which states were unable to provide employment to people, an NGO today alleged in the Supreme Court. A bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and N V Ramana was told by advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing NGO Swaraj Abhiyan, that the Centre cannot cap the funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) which provides for 100 days of employment per family per year. "Today, more than half of the state governments are controlled by the party which runs the central government. That is why the Centre is asking these states not to make a fuss about it (funds). The Centre is saying that if you (states) will make a fuss about it, we will cut the budget," he told the bench. He said budgetary constraints could come into effect only if employment has crossed the limit of 100 days per annum per family and the government cannot limit the .

Kerala's IT firm organises campaign for menstrual hygiene

A US-based Software Company has organised a unique two-day campaign to create awareness among the masses on menstrual hygiene.The software company 'Navigant', located in Thiruvananthapuram's Techno Park has started a "Padaid" campaign on January 25 in which they placed pad aid boxes in different parts of the office and encouraged its employees to contribute by dropping sanitary napkins in it."When we started the campaign we were not sure how many people will participate in it. But later lots of employees contributed to this cause," said one of the organiser."Some men employees offered money, but we encouraged them to purchase the sanitary napkins and drop them," another organiser added.The initiative undertaken by the company received an overwhelming response with other organisation located in the region showing interest in taking part in it.The company has decided to hand over the collected napkins to the representatives of "sakhi" an NGO working for women.

Saudi prosecutor to hire women investigators for first time

The Saudi public prosecutor's office said today it will recruit women as investigators for the first time, as the kingdom seeks to boost female employment under a reform plan for a post-oil era. "Vacancies are available in women's positions on the staff of the public prosecution for the rank of lieutenant investigator," the office announced in a statement relayed by the information ministry. The announcement is in line with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's "Vision 2030" reform programme that seeks to elevate women to nearly one-third of the workforce, up from about 22 percent now. Saudi Arabia's passport department recently said it received 107,000 applications for 140 vacant positions for women at airports and border crossings. Officials becoming mothers through surrogacy to get maternity

Government officials who become mothers through surrogacy will be entitled to maternity leave, Union minister Jitendra Singh said today. According to the orders issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, such women can get paid maternity leave of 26 weeks (about 180 days). Addressing a press conference, Singh, minister of state for personnel, public grievances and pensions, also said that a divorced daughter will be eligible for family pension if the divorce case has been filed before the death of pensioner or the family pensioner, even though the judgement has been passed after the death of the pensioner or family pensioner. The minister also announced that constant attendant allowance on disability pension has been increased by 25 per cent from Rs 4,500 per month to Rs 6,750 per month. Raj govt to recruit youths for 1.08 lakh posts before December

Rajasthan Chief Minister today announced that the government will conduct recruitment drive to fill 1.08 lakh posts before December this year. Around 77,100 posts will filled in Education department, 5,718 in Home department, 11,930 in Administrative Reforms and 6,571 in Health department, she said in her budget speech today. Also, a notification for filling 75,000 posts will be released in the next financial year, she said. 2.45 lakh people got assistance under DAY-NULM till Dec 2017

Over 2.45 lakh beneficiaries of a Central government scheme for improving livelihood in urban areas have been assisted to set up individual or group micro enterprises, Union Housing and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri said today. According to an official release, at a meeting of the governing council of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) here, he said, "Till December 2017, a total of 2,45,348 beneficiaries have been assisted under DAY-NULM for setting up individual/group micro enterprises." DAY-NULM aims to reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households by enabling them to access self- employment and skilled wage employment opportunities. During the meeting, it was informed that total utilisation of funds by the states since 2014-15 was Rs 2,149.37 crore, the release said. Over 5.7 lakh street vendors have been issued ID cards so far, it said.

Unions up in arms for not inviting INTUC in labour conference

As many as 10 central trade unions have lodged strong protest over not inviting Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in the 47th Indian Labour Conference (ILC) on February 26-27. They described the move as "discriminatory" and "undermining the spirit of tripartism." A letter to Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar by the unions said: "Your Ministry had invited nomination to the 47th ILC to be held on February 26-27. We have noted that INTUC, the second biggest central trade union in the country as per the official verification of your ministry, has not been extended invitation for the ILC, the highest tripartite forum of the country." The letter said the ministry has taken a totally arbitrary stand regarding the hasty recognition of a breakaway faction of TUCC, another central trade union, ignoring the main one. Philippines expands ban for workers in Kuwait

The Philippines today expanded a ban on its citizens working in Kuwait after President Rodrigo Duterte angrily lashed out at the Gulf state over reports of Filipino workers suffering abuse and exploitation. Authorities say 252,000 Filipinos work in Kuwait, many as maids. They are among over two million employed in the region, whose remittances are a lifeline to the Philippine economy. A Hyderabadi man who was held captive in Saudi Arabia has been rescued by the Indian Embassy.The victim, Shaik Inayath went to Saudi Arabia's Riyadh on a job visa, first, he was provided with a mechanic visa but after going there he found that it was a house driver visa.The victim worked in one place for three years and later shifted to another job where he was not paid for a year.
