Jammu and Kashmir Labour minister Haseeb Drabu today said that 87,650 educated unemployed youths were registered with district employment and counselling centres in the state. In a written reply in the state Assembly, Drabu, who also holds the finance portfolio, informed the House that of the total, 41,981 were registered with centre's in the Kashmir division and 45,669 in the Jammu division. "The registration is voluntary and the total figure may be higher," he said, adding that several initiatives have been taken to provide them jobs in the government and private sectors. The highest registration of 11,027 is in Jammu district and the lowest in Budgam at 1,188, the minister said. Drabu said that 8,508 youths were registered with centres in Kathua district; 7,165 in Samba; 6,401 in Anantnag; 5,809 in Srinagar; 5,489 in Kulgam; 5,053 in Rajouri; 4,594 in Shopian; 3,546 in Kargil; 3,358 in Baramulla and 3,206 in Poonch. The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today demanded adequate compensation for victims of the Bawana fire incident, in which 17 people were killed and two injured. The fire broke out in a firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi's Bawana industrial area last evening. "The CITU demands adequate compensation for the families of the deceased and to those hurt in this horrible incident," the trade body said in a statement. It said that an independent and time-bound inquiry should also be conducted, covering not only the causes of the fire and the safety measures in the unit, but also the role of the labour department and its officials. A bench of Justices S C Dharamadhikari and Bharati Dangre recently held that since the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was a public body, it was required to maintain transparency and the highest standards of work. Thus, it would gain more by employing candidates with "more calibre, and fresh blood and vigour," through fresh selection procedures from time to time, the court said. Two labourers were injured in a mud slide mishap in Kanpur on Saturday.They have been admitted to hospital in critical condition."A basement was being dig. Three workers were working inside the basement and five were working outside. A heap of mud fell on the workers working in underground area of the building. Two workers got buried in the mud. The AAP government has notified 'Delhi Advisory Contract Labour Board', a body which will advise the city administration on various problems of contractual workers in the national capital. According to the Delhi government, the board will also ensure implementation of the provisions of Contract Labour Act, 1970. "In order to address various concerns of contract labour, and to implement the provisions of Contract Labour Act, 1970, Delhi government has notified Delhi Advisory Contract Labour Board," Labour Minister Gopal Rai said in a statement.
