The government decided to revise pension and family pension by notionally fixing their pay in the pay matrix recommended by the 7th Central Pay Commission in the level corresponding to the pay in the pay scale or pay band and grade pay at which they retired or died, an official release said here today. Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu today announced constitution of an expert group to study the reasons for development deficit in the state's remote areas and suggest measures for boosting infrastructure development. "The government would also make development deficit in remote areas of the state a part of the terms of reference of the proposed State Finance Commission so that a holistic view is taken on the issue and the allocation of resources is made accordingly," Drabu said while replying to the discussion on Budget 2018-19 in the upper house. Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA M Y Tarigami today asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to formulate a policy to regularise the National Health Mission (NHM) employees who are on an indefinite strike for over a month. "The strike of NHM staff has affected the health services to a large extent with patients facing a lot of inconvenience in rural as well as urban areas. The government must immediately formulate a policy to regularise them," he said. Tarigami said there was a "dire need" to chalk out a regularisation mechanism for the employees, including doctors, paramedical and management staff working under the NHM. US ride-hailing app Uber today said it would cap the number of hours its drivers can work in Britain from next week in a bid to increase safety after heavy criticism of its business practices. The new policy means that drivers must take an uninterrupted six-hour break after 10 hours, and will not be able to log on to the app during that time. The company had already been messaging drivers who were working too long to switch off its app. "We believe this is an industry first and are not aware of any other private hire operator in the UK that has introduced such a limit," Uber said in a statement. In the previous financial year 93 child labourers and in 2015-16 and 82 child labourers were set free in Madhya Pradesh, state labour commissioner Shobhit Jain said.
