Russian Lower House adopts law criminalising refusal to hire pre-retirement age persons

The Lower House of the Russian Parliament (State Duma) on Tuesday adopted a law on criminal liability for employers over refusal to hire persons of the pre-retirement age.The explanatory note points out that the law is aimed at reaching the target indicators of the Strategy for the Long-Term Development of the Pension System in line with the Russian pension legislation.Citizens of pre-retirement age are people who are eligible to receive pension payments within five years of their current age. The law is adopted as part of the ongoing changes in the Russian pension legislation, which includes raising the retirement age from 60 to 65 years for men and from 55 to 60 years for women.

Job addition soars to 11-month high of nearly 14 lakh in July: CSO report

Employment generation increased in July to 11-month high of nearly 14 lakh, taking the total tally of new subscribers with Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to 1.34 crore since September 2017, according to a Central Statistics Office report (CSO). As many as 13.97 lakh new members joined the health insurance scheme run by the ESIC in July this year, which is the highest in any month since September 2017, a report of the CSO said The report is based on the enrolment under social security scheme run by ESIC, Employment Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). However, the data indicates that the total number of insured persons or enrolled workers with ESIC as in July this year were 2.77 crore, slightly less than 2.95 crore in September 2017. Raj transport workers' strike enters ninth day

The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) employees' strike entered the ninth day Tuesday. In a bid to intensify the strike, family members of the protesting employees have lent their support to the stir. Nearly 16,000 roadways employees from 52 depots in the state have been on strike for the past nine days. Passengers continued to face hard times on Tuesday as 4,700 buses remained off the roads. The employees have been protesting since September 7 demanding the government implement the seventh pay commission recommendations, lift the ban on recruitment for 8,000 vacant posts in roadways, and replacement of 1,000 buses which have run 8 lakh kilometers. UK Labour calls for worker ownership, nationalisations

Britain's main opposition Labour Party on Monday called for mass nationalisation and a new scheme to give workers a share of company dividends that was dismissed by big business. At the party's annual conference, shadow finance minister John McDonnell outlined plans to renationalise water, rail, energy and mail services within five years. "People have just had enough of being ripped off by privatisation," McDonnell told delegates to thundering applause. Many Britons are dissatisfied with services provided by privatised companies, including frequent train delays, technical problems and ever-increasing bills for water. Pay in manufacturing 5.2% higher than India's median salary

Manufacturing has been the second highest-earning sector in India in 2017, and remained the only other sector besides IT that paid median gross salary of above Rs 200 per hour, according to a report. At Rs 230.9 per hour, manufacturing is the only sector among the eight to see an increase of 9 per cent in median gross hourly salary, according to the 'Monster Salary Index' (MSI) report for the manufacturing sector. The median gross salary in the manufacturing sector in 2017, at Rs 230.9 per hour, is 5.2 per cent more than the overall median gross salary of the country, which is Rs 219.4 per hour, it added. The report is based on the WageIndicator dataset covering the period of three years, from January 2015 to December 2017, of 20,994 respondents. 'People's inclination to govt jobs leading to rise in job rackets'

With at least six job rackets busted in the national capital in the last two months by the Delhi Police's crime branch, a senior cop has said it reflects the current "job scenario" in the country and people's propensity to government jobs. People who are behind these scams are unemployed as well and the ones who get duped also have no employment, the officer with crime branch said. "And they want government job which has job security and pension." A senior police officer with the Crime Branch said their unit has solved at least six cases of job rackets in the last two months itself. Contingent workforce continues to thrive in Asia Pacific: Report

Companies in the Asia Pacific region including India are integrating freelancers, independent contractors and consultants at a rapid rate into their existing pool of employees, says a report. According to a KellyOCG's Workforce Agility Barometer report, one in four C-suite leaders in Asia-Pacific reported that contingent workers made up more than 30 per cent of their overall workforce, a 13 per cent increase from the last year. The study was based on an online survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of KellyOCG. India made significant advancement to eliminate worst forms of child labour in 2017: US

India is among the only 14 countries to have made significant advancement in efforts to eliminate child labour in 2017, an official US report said Saturday. "In 2017, India made a significant advancement in efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour," the US Department of Labor said in its annual 'Child Labour and Forced Labour' report. It said the Findings on the 'Worst Forms of Child Labour', mandated by the Trade and Development Act of 2000, is the most comprehensive research product on the state of child labour worldwide. This year, the report uses more stringent criteria to assess the efforts of 132 countries and territories to address child labour, the report added. "Only 14 countries including Colombia, Paraguay, and India met the new criteria for "Significant Advancement", which this year requires specific legal and policy labour standards to be met," it said. Infosys to open technology, innovation hub in Arizona; hire 1,000 people by 2023

India's second largest IT services major Infosys Friday said it will open its next Technology and Innovation Hub in Arizona, US and hire 1,000 American workers in the state by 2023. Last year, Infosys had announced setting up of four such hubs and hiring about 10,000 locals in the US over the next two years. To date, Infosys has hired 5,874 American workers against this commitment. "The Arizona Technology and Innovation Hub will have a special focus on autonomous technologies, Internet of Things (IOT), full-stack engineering, data science and cyber security," Infosys said in a statement. We don't want government alms, make us permanent employees: Delhi Anganwadi association

A day after the Union Cabinet approved honorariums for Anganwadi workers and helpers, an association of Delhi state Aanganwadi rejected the hike saying they do not want the government's alms and asked the government to recognise them as permanent workers. Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association President Shivani Kaul said they would boycott the upcoming general election if they are not given assurance in writing that they would be made permanent staff. "We do not want the government's bheekh (alms). The campaign promise of the BJP was to give us the status of permanent employee. Deb seeks central help to pay employees at par with 7th CPC

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has sought special assistance of Rs 1500 crore from the Centre to offer salary to government employees at par with the recommendations of 7th central pay commission, an official said on Thursday. Deb, who is currently in New Delhi, met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday and sought the assistance for two lakh employees and pensioners of the state, said officer on special duty to the chief ministers secretariat Sanjoy Mishra here. Deb said the union finance minister had taken the matter positively. The previous government, he said, had left a burden of Rs 1200 crore as loan making it difficult to carry forward the development projects and meet the peoples aspirations. Deb also sought Jaitleys intervention to ensure speedy release of Rs 358.70 crore to complete 81 ongoing projects. Jaitley assured him that he would look into the matter.
