"The rate of pension of medal winners in the Para-Olympics Games and Para Asian Games will be at par with the medal winners in the Olympic Games and Asian Games respectively and only a World Championships held once in four years will be considered for pension," a press release said. A framework is being established to synergise the MUDRA Yojana with the skilling ecosystem under which one lakh youth would acquire target oriented self employment in the July-September quarter, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said today. Addressing a press conference here, the minister said the initiative aimed at increasing self-employment in the country is an outcome of collaboration between the Department of Financial Services in the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2015, for providing loans of up to Rs 10 lakh to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises. The Union Cabinet today approved raising the basic pay of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) by over three-fold to up to Rs 14,500 per month, effective January 1, 2016. The arrears after the revised wages will be paid in one instalment for the period from January 1, 2016 till the date of implementation. "Gramin Dak Sevaks GDS who were getting Rs 2,295 per month will get Rs 10,000. Those who were getting Rs 2,745 will get Rs 12,000. GDS who were paid Rs 4,115 will get Rs 14,500 per month," Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha told reporters after the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Those who were getting Rs 2,775 will get Rs 12,500. GDS who were paid Rs 4,115 will get Rs 14,500 per month," Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha told reporters after the Cabinet meeting. He said the revised wages will come with arrears with effect from January 1, 2016. He said that allowances will be over the basic pay and the Cabinet has also additionally for the first time approved risk and hardship allowances for GDS. Wipro, India's third largest software services provider, today said it has rolled out "high single-digit" wage hikes for its offshore employees. "Wipro Ltd has announced salary hikes for eligible employees, effective June 1, 2018. On an average, the increments are in the high single digits for offshore employees," Wipro said in a statement. It added that increments for onsite employees are "in the low single digits". "Top performers and those working on future focused niche technologies and domains have been rewarded with substantially higher increases," the statement said. However, Wipro did not specify the exact details of the wage hikes or the number of employees that were offered the pay hike. Earlier this year, larger rival Infosys had said it would roll out salary hikes ranging from "mid-single digit to high-single digit" for majority of its employees, effective from April onwards.
Putting in place new norms, Sebi has said that its employees would not be sent on deputation or on external assignment against their will. The regulator has amended its employee regulation. Jammu Development Authority (JDA) staff continued their strike for their 12th consecutive day today demanding implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations, even as over five lakh government employees in Jammu and Kashmir have received their pay this month according to the pay panel's recommendations. Over 200 staff under the banner of JDA Employees Welfare Association members continued their strike and raised slogans in favour of their demands and against the Vice Chairman of JDA. Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on reservation in promotion today, saying it will re-open the doors to the members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities for promotion in government jobs. In a major relief to the Centre, the apex court today allowed it to go ahead with reservations in promotion for the SC/ST employees in "accordance with law". "I thank the Supreme Court for its verdict on reservation in promotion to the SC/ST employees in government jobs. The doors that were closed will now re-open," the Dalit leader said. The Union minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for pursuing the matter so that the court was approached during the summer vacation and the case was put up before it by the additional solicitor general. The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Centre to provide reservation in promotion for employees of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe community as per law, till the issue is cleared off by a constitution bench.Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Singh, representing the Centre, said that promotions for SC/ST employees came to a standstill after orders were passed by several high courts in regard to this issue."It is the duty of the government to provide reservation to SC/ ST employees in jobs," he said.Reportedly, the Delhi High Court in August last year had passed an order saying that the government cannot blindly provide reservation in promotion to SCs and STs, until and unless there is an adequate representation for the candidate.
The Kerala High Court today directed over 400 workers of the State Road Transport Corporation, who have availed a long leave and taken up jobs abroad, to rejoin duty within one and a half months. Over 400 employees belonging to various categories have taken a long leave from the loss-making corporation and have taken up jobs abroad. The KSRTC Managing Director had recently issued an order directing them to rejoin duty by June 1, failing which their services would be terminated. Challenging the order, the affected employees had moved the High Court, seeking more time to rejoin work. Senior advocate Indira Jaising suggested today that judges can be made more accountable by not giving them re-employment. Addressing a district convention of human rights body People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) here, Jaising laid stress upon bringing more transparency in the judiciary. "Not giving re-employment, perhaps, would make the judges more accountable," she said at the event, which was attended by the members of the PUCL and rights activists. The former additional solicitor-general also said the question of reservation would remain till untouchability remains in the society. Senior counsel Anand Grover denounced the government's alleged interference with the judiciary in appointment of judges and said it was important to build a citizens' campaign to keep vigil about what was happening. There should be absolute transparency in the functioning of the court, he added.
