The labour ministry has extended the dateline for receiving comments from stakeholders on its proposed labour code on safety and working conditions of workers until May 31, 2018. Earlier, the comments were invited by April 22, 2018. The date for giving comments on 'Labour Code on Occupation Safety, Health and Working Conditions, 2018' has been extended up to May 31, 2018, the labour ministry said in a notification. As per the recommendation of the National Commission on Labour, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has been taking steps for simplification, amalgamation and rationalisation of central labour laws. On this, various existing acts are being proposed to be subsumed in four labour codes -- on wages, industrial relations, social security and occupational safety and health and working conditions. The labour ministry had prepared a preliminary draft on Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions, 2018 by amalgamating 13 labour laws relating to safety, and health .

Retirement fund body EPFO today said it has provided an offline tool for employers for validating the ECR or EPF return (electronic challan cum return) before uploading it at the unified portal. "In order to assist the employer to create the correct ECR file every month, EPFO has provided an offline tool for employers for validating ECR before uploading at Unified Portal," the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) said in a statement. According to the statement, this tool will facilitate the employers to pre-validate the ECR and also carry out amendments in the ECR file before uploading on Unified Portal. It is available for download at www.epfindia.gov.in. The ECR is a monthly return filed by the employer every month through employer e-sewa portal. The Competition Commission has disposed of a complaint alleging unfair business practices against Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and its 20 affiliates with regard to certain directives including fixation of wages. The complaint was filed by Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association. It was alleged that FWICE and its 20 affiliates issued directives to the complainant and its members in contravention of the provisions of Section 3 and 4 of the Competition Act. FWICE is a federation of different craft associations related with the film industry in Western India (Mumbai-based film and television industry). India's largest IT services firm TCS today said it has expanded operations in Texas, US with the addition of 200 employees joining the company as part of the Transamerica deal. In January this year, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had signed a deal worth over USD 2 billion with Transamerica to administer the latter's life insurance, annuity, supplemental health insurance, and workplace voluntary benefits products, and manage the administration of more than 10 million policies. "More than 200 former Transamerica employees now work for TCS at this Plano facility (of Transamerica), as part of TCS recruiting and protecting more than 2,200 Transamerica jobs across the US in multiple locations," TCS said in a statement. It added that Texas is a key business hub for TCS in the US with more than 3,500 employees currently working across the state.
