3 arrested in connection with burglary cases in Delhi
The Delhi Police today claimed to have solved two cases of burglary with the arrest of three men. Nikhil (29), Suraj (20) and Mohit (18) were arrested in connection with two cases of burglary lodged at the Chhawla Police Station, they said. While Nikhil is employed with the municipal corporation as a private sanitation worker, the others are school dropouts. Five smartphones were seized from their possession, they said, adding an investigation in to the case was underway.
UK-Iranian woman returns to Tehran jail after plea rejected
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian woman who has been held in Tehran for more than two years on sedition charges, returned to prison today after temporary release, dashing her family's hopes of an extension. The Bhojpur district police today claimed to have solved the murder case of a 19-year-old man, the recovery of whose body had led to violence, arson and stripping and parading of a woman earlier this week. The body of Vimalesh Sah was found adjacent to a railway track in Bihiyan on August 20. Suspecting that those living in a red light area nearby could have killed the man, people of Damodarpur village had torched several shops, assaulted shopkeepers and dragged a woman out on street, ripped off her clothes and paraded her naked. Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar said Sah had visited a woman of the red light area where she was strangulated to death over some monetary dispute. Unnao rape: Post-mortem cannot determine cause of witness' death, says police
The Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday said that the post-mortem report of Yunus, the key witness to the death of Unnao rape case victim's father, could not determine the cause of his death.Speaking to ANI, Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order, Anand Kumar said, "The post-mortem report clearly says that the cause of death could not be ascertained. Viscera (the internal organs) needs to be preserved for histopathological and chemical examinations. In addition, the post-mortem report also mentions the lack of any anti-mortem injuries on the body."The police on Saturday exhumed the body of Yunus for post mortem. Three held for killing double murder witness
Avinash Bali, the key witness in the 2011 murders of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez, was allegedly killed by his friend Nilesh Shukla over some personal dispute, the police said today as they announced arrests of three persons in the case. A personal cum financial dispute between Bali (40) and Shukla (38), the prime accused in the case, seems to be the cause behind the crime, a senior police official said. MP man seeks action against collector for sending him to jail
A 61-year-old man has sought action against the collector of Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur district for sending him to jail for allegedly "being drunk and creating ruckus" at a public function. P K Purohit, a resident of Khurpa village here, was attending the "jan sunwai" programme of Narsinghpur Collector Abhay Verma on August 21 when he was arrested. Purohit claimed today that he was at the function to apprise district authorities of the delay in building a proper approach road to his village. A 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year old shopkeeper in a village here and the incident came to light after its video was circulated locally, police said today. Rajesh Dhawan alias Bittu lured the girl inside his shop yesterday on pretext of offering her toffees and raped her, they said. She girl reached home but kept quiet as the accused had allegedly threatened of dire consequences. The incident came to light as it was videographed and circulated locally by some unidentified people. The girl's uncle identified her in the clip and lodged a police complaint last night, they said. Rohingya man held for 'posting' pics of woman camp inmate
A Rohingya man was arrested here for allegedly defaming a Rohingya woman by allegedly posting some personal photos of her on social media, police said today. The man and the woman, who are residents of a camp of Rohingyas in the city, were colleagues at an office and they had taken some personal pictures then, they said. The woman got married to another Rohingya man, who is now working in Canada, they said. The accused person allegedly grew jealous and shared the pictures with the woman's husband and other residents of the camp, they added. He created a fake id on a social networking site and posted the pictures. Based on a complaint lodged by the woman, the accused was arrested and remanded, police said.

Foreign currencies worth Rs 81 lakh were seized in two different cases at the airport here today and one person arrested in this connection, Customs officials said. Acting on a specific information, the officials of Air Intelligence Unit intercepted a 51-year-old passenger bound for Singapore and recovered Euros, US dollars, Singapore dollars and Brunei dollars in different denominations worth Rs 77 lakh, a release from Commissioner of Customs said. A search on him resulted in the recovery of Rs 4.60 lakh from his pockets following which the passenger was arrested, it said. In the second incident, another passenger bound for Sri Lanka was nabbed for allegedly carrying 5,000 US dollars worth Rs 3.50 lakh in his hand baggage. Since the passenger did not declare the currencies, it was seized from him under Customs Act, the release said. Video surfaces showing man being tortured for eloping with woman
Two video clips have surfaced purportedly showing a tribal man being tortured by the relatives of the woman with whom he had eloped. Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Shridhar Patil said they have taken cognizance of the videos and set up special teams to trace the youth and bring the culprits to book. Shoukat Ali, a resident of Kathua district's Manyari village, reportedly went missing with the woman, Jeelo, on August 16, three days after their wedding was solemnised at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Two videos of 33 seconds and 36 seconds showed the man being tortured in an open area as he pleaded for mercy while being tied up with ropes. In one of the videos, he was being beaten up and his legs were held from a hanging log. Eleven resorts sealed in Nilgiris district
Eleven resorts constructed on the elephant corridor in Nilgiris district were sealed today in compliance with a Supreme Court directive to crack down on illegal structures in the area. The process of sealing the resorts, including the one owned by yesteryear Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, began this morning, officials sources said. Adhering to an Apex Court order, the Nilgiris district administration had identified 39 illegally constructed resorts on elephant corridor, obstructing the free movement of pachyderms, leading to animal-human conflict. During the first phase, the authorities had sealed 27 resorts. Of the remaining 12, the officials had served notices to 11 resorts yesterday seeking valid documents or remove the structures. Verification of documents of the remaining one is on, they said. Over 4,800 persons arrested in poll-bound MP's Bhind district
In view of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls slated for later this year, police in the state's Bhind district have arrested over 4,800 persons against whom different types of warrants were pending, a senior official said today. Bhind Superintendent of Police Rudolf Alvares also said that police stations were issuing notices to all such persons against whom court warrants are pending. "Our main focus is to act on the pending warrants in view of ensuing elections. So far this year, 1,015 out of 3,461 criminals, against whom permanent warrants were pending, have been arrested. Another 3,861 out of 5,542 criminals, against whom arrest warrants had been issued, were caught and presented in court," Alvares said. He said that the police would ask polling authorities to remove the names of those people from the voters list against whom warrants were pending but who were unavailable at their current addresses.
Dabholkar and Lankesh killings linked: CBI to court
The killings of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru last year and rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune in 2013 were "linked", the CBI claimed before a court here today. Seeking extension of the custody of Sachin Andure, one of the alleged shooters in the Dabholkar murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the court that one of the accused in the Lankesh murder case had handed over a pistol and three bullets with a magazine to him. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) H R Jadhav extended Andure's CBI custody till August 30. Dabholkar, a Pune-based anti-superstition activist, was shot dead while he was on morning walk in August, 2013. Lankesh was shot dead in front of her residence in Bengaluru in September, 2017. The CBI told the court that the agency would seek the custody of Sharad Kalaskar, another alleged shooter in the Dabholkar murder case. 51,837 industries in Delhi under NGT scanner
The National Green Tribunal has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to constitute a committee to enquire about the status of 51,837 industries in the national capital which are running in residential areas without requisite approvals. The green panel asked the apex pollution monitoring body to form a two member committee to look into the entire matter and take appropriate action in accordance with law. "The North Delhi Municipal Corporation, East Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation and Delhi Development Authority will co-operate and provide all assistance to the Committee constituted by the CPCB," a bench, headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, said. China's largest ride-hailing service provider Didi Chuxing has fired two executives and suspended its hitch carpooling service from tomorrow after the second rape and murder of a female passenger in three months allegedly by its drivers, the company said today. The move comes after a female passenger was killed on Friday only three months after another Didi driver allegedly killed a flight attendant. Didi will suspend its hitch online services nationwide and re-evaluate its business model and service logic, a statement issued by the ride hailing firm said today.
