Twenty-four girls were rescued from a shelter home here and three people were arrested after allegation of sexual exploitation of the inmates came to light, police said today. Eighteen inmates of the shelter were still missing, they said. "Twenty-four girls were rescued yesterday from the shelter home at station road in the name of Ma Vindhyawasini Mahila Prakishan Evam Samaj Sewa Sansthan, which has 42 inmates. Justice Mukta Gupta granted the relief to Anup Prakash Garg, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 12 in connection with the case involving a Gujarat-based pharma firm. The judge directed Garg not to leave the country without permission from the court concerned. The high court said he will not directly or indirectly influence the witnesses or interfere with the further investigation. Garg has been asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs two lakh and two sureties of the same amount. Five persons were arrested for allegedly killing a 40-year-old man in Hinjili area of Odisha's Ganjam district, police said today. A few sharp-edged weapons used for the crime were also seized from those arrested yesterday, said Inspector In-charge of Hinjili police station, Prasant Kumar Sahoo. The Supreme Court today cancelled the interim protection from arrest given to two clergymen, accused of sexually abusing a married woman, and asked them to surrender by August 13. Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said today. The girl, who is a Dalit, was in a field when five people allegedly dragged her to a hut and raped her in Reoti -- 436 km east of Lucknow -- last Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Sriparna Ganguly said. An FIR was registered yesterday when the girl informed about the incident to her family members. A 19-year-old man allegedly raped a five-year-old girl residing in his neighbourhood in Maharashtra's Palghar district, a police official said today. The accused has been arrested, he said. The incident occurred yesterday when the girl's parents had gone to work at a farm, leaving the victim and their eight-month-old son at their home in Belghar village under Wada taluka. At that time, the accused entered the victim's home and lured her by offering sweets. He then took the girl to his sister's house located nearby and allegedly raped the minor there, an official at Wada police station said. The girl's parents learnt about the incident after returning home. They immediately filed a complaint with the Wada police following which the accused was arrested last night and booked under relevant IPC sections and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.

People from various walks of life held a candle light vigil today at Parliament Street in memory of flight attendant Anissia Batra, who allegedly committed suicide last month. Anissia had jumped to death from the terrace of her house in south Delhi's Panchsheel Park. Her husband, Mayank Singhvi, was later arrested on charges of harassing her for dowry and abetting her to commit suicide. The case was recently transferred to Crime Branch from the district police. Over 500 people, including Anissia's family and friends, were part of the vigil organised to demand justice for her. Anissia's family, which has been demanding a fair probe into the alleged suicide, rued that the case was handed to the Crime Branch after a delay of 21 days. Three persons were injured, with two of them suffering gunshot wounds, in a clash between two groups in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area today, police said. The injured were identified as Dheeraj, Narender and Neeraj, all residents of Govindpuri. They were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, they said. They are out of danger, but not yet fit to give statements, they said. Police were informed about the incident at 6 am. During investigation, it was learnt that a quarrel broke out between two men over a criminal case involving their friends.
