Headless body with hands, legs chopped off, found in bag near DU college: Police

In a shocking incident, the headless body of a man was found inside a black travel bag today at a bus stand near a Delhi University college in north campus, with the victim's hands and legs too chopped off, the police said. The bag was found lying near the Shri Guri Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College bus stand in Timarpur police station area, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Nupur Prasad. The police were informed about the suspicious-looking bag lying near the bus stand at about 8 am. On reaching the spot, the police found the bag having a headless torso of a man aged between 28 and 30 years, the officer added. The man's legs had been severed off from the torso and were chopped into two parts, said the police adding that the victim's hands too had been hacked off and were missing from the bag, said Prasad. The body is yet to be identified, the police said adding that it has been kept in the Sabzi Mandi mortuary for autopsy. The police have lodged a murder case in the incident

Woman shot at by jilted lover after break-up

A man allegedly shot at a 24-year-old woman in Delhi's Bharat Nagar area after she broke-up with him, police said today. The incident took place last night, following which the man was arrested, they said. They were in a relationship but the woman ended it. He attacked the victim at her relative's house, police said. The condition of the woman, who is a chartered accountant, is stable. The accused, who works with a jagran mandal, had been harassing the woman, they said. Yesterday, when he learnt that the woman was at her relative's house, he went there, and shot at her as soon as she opened the door, police said. Hearing the gunshots, the victim's relatives rushed to the spot and took her to a hospital, they said. The man was arrested from Shahdara, police said.

Man attacks mother, brother over property dispute

A man allegedly attacked his mother and brother in Rohini over distribution of ancestral property, police said here today. The victim Deepesh, a resident of Ghoga village in Rohini, alleged that his brother Jaidev attacked him with a sharp object over distribution of ancestral property and injured his left hand. When their mother Kamlesh intervened, Jaidev caused injuries to her as well, a senior police officer said. Both the injured are being treated at a government hospital, he said. A case has been registered and police are trying to trace the accused Jaidev.

Police arrests domestic help in theft case

The Delhi Police has arrested a former domestic help for theft at his owner's house in New Friends Colony and recovered diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh. The police has arrested 27-year-old Roop Narain, who worked as a cook for the last seven years and left the job two months ago and opened a dhaba which was not running well. The stolen jewellery worth Rs 15 lakhs was recovered at the instance of accused from his native place at Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, they said According to the complainant, she left for Hyderabad on July 22 and returned on July 25 and found that jewellery items, including diamonds, polki and kundan necklaces, ear rings, pendent, bracelet, were missing from her bedroom's drawer. All the locks, except back door, were found intact after which she lodged an FIR at New Friends Colony.

Speeding truck mows down two teenagers in east Delhi

Two youths were crushed to death while two others sustained injuries after their scooter was hit by a speeding truck in east Delhi's Trilokpuri, police said today. The victims were friends and aged between 18 and 19 years. They are residents of Agra, police said, adding the victims were travelling without helmet. They were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where the two were declared brought dead, said Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (east). The driver fled from the spot after the incident and further investigation is underway, he said.

Several SC judges unhappy over Centre's decision to lower down Justice Joseph's seniority

Several judges of the Supreme Court, including members of the collegium, are apparently upset over the Centre's decision to lower down the seniority of Justice K M Joseph, whose name has been notified, along with those of two other judges, for elevation to the apex court. Highly placed sources in the apex court said the judges, including some members of the collegium, will meet Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra tomorrow to express dissatisfaction over the Centre's decision to put Justice Joseph's name in serial number 3 in the notification. Sources said a demand would be made to the CJI to take a corrective measure before the oath-taking ceremony in the Supreme Court, which is likely to take place on Tuesday. Some members of the Supreme Court Bar Association said they will also make a representation on the issue. The Crime Branch of the Gautam Buddh Nagar police arrested Amit Satija, vice president, Earth Iconic Infrastructure Private Limited, located in Sector 16 here, this evening, police said. "Satija, a resident of Vasant Kunj in Delhi, is accused of not giving the property despite taking money from the buyers," the police said in a statement. 15 oxen found dead in abandoned container in southwest Delhi

Fifteen oxen were found dead inside an abandoned container in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said today. Yesterday, the police were informed about a container parked on the National Highway 8 near Link Road, which was emanating a foul smell, they said. When it was checked, the bodies of 15 oxen were found, police said. A case has been registered and the bodies have been sent to a veterinary hospital in Masoodpur for postmortem examination. Police are on the lookout for the driver of the container who abandoned it and fled.

Family seeks CBI probe into Bengaluru man's disappearance

A protest was staged at the Jantar Mantar today, demanding a CBI probe into the disappearance of a man from Bengaluru in December last year. Kumar Ajitabh (30) had listed his car on an online marketplace and had gone out to meet a prospective buyer on December 18. He has been missing since then. His sister Pragya alleged that Ajitabh was abducted. The Bangalore Police, a Special Investigation Team and the CID of Karnataka probed the case over the last seven and a half months but failed to trace Ajitabh, his car or the abductor, she said. "We filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court for a CBI probe. There have been no tangible results so far," she said. Around 50 people participated in the protest, demanding that the central government order a CBI probe into the matter.

MP: 3 detained after 10 dead cows found in abattoir in Khandwa

Three persons have been detained after police found 10 dead cows in an abattoir in Imlipura area of Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, a senior official said today. The official said that the meat recovered was being sent for testing and further action against the three would be initiated after the test reports come in. The three were detained after police acted on a tip-off and raided a slaughterhouse in Imlipura in the morning today. "Ten dead cows and nine live ones were found in the slaughterhouse and adjoining godowns and houses. The meat that was recovered during the raid has been sent for testing," said Superintendent of Police Ruchi Vardhan Mishra. She said a case under the Madhya Pradesh Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act 2004 would be taken based on further probe into the incident.

Agnivesh did not inform me about his visit: J'khand CM

Refuting Swami Agnivesh's claim that the attack on him in Jharkhand last month was "pre-planned", Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said he or the state authorities had no information about the social activist's visit to the state. Agnivesh was on July 17 slapped, kicked and verbally abused in Jharkhand's Pakur town by groups allegedly affiliated to the BJP for speaking against Hindus. The activist had claimed that as he had written to Das informing him about his visit 15 days in advance, the attack was "pre-planned". Student killed in accident in UP

A 19-year-old student was killed and two others were injured today when their motorcycle was hit by a Uttar Pradesh roadways bus, police said. The incident took place at 8.30 am. Three students of class 11 Anil Sharma, Vikas Yadav and Sangam Yadav, who were riding on the motorcycle, were going towards the Gorakhpur University, Station head officer of Cantonment police station Chandrabhan Singh said. Sharma died, while two others sustained serious injuries, he said, adding that they have been admitted to a hospital. Bus driver Brajesh Kumar Singh has been arrested, police said.

C'garh woman booked for pouring hot oil on stepson's private

A woman has been booked in Chhattisgarh's Korba district for allegedly pouring hot oil on the private parts of her 6-year-old stepson as a punishment for urinating in bed while asleep, police said today. The incident reportedly took place on August 2 in Puchhpara village under Katghora police station area, located around 35 km away from here, and a case was registered yesterday, police said. "The child told his aunt, Sangeeta, about the incident yesterday when she visited following which she, along with the child's father Bajrang, filed a complaint against Mangleshwari who is the child's stepmother," said Katghora Station House Officer K K Dubey. A forensic team today visited the spot in Giridih district where the Block Development Officer of Gande and another person were shot at by unidentified persons yesterday, police said. Sniffer dogs were also sent to the spot, they said. DIG (North Chhotanagpur Zone), Pankaj Kamboj told reporters that the investigation was being carried out by a special team, headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Manish Toppo. A 40-year-old woman journalist has been arrested from Mumbai for allegedly abetting the suicide of Dainik Bhaskar group editor Kalpesh Yagnik, police said today. Accused Saloni Arora was miffed with Yagnik (55) after being sacked from the newspaper and had allegedly threatened to implicate him in false cases if she was not reinstated, police said. Six arrested for gang-raping woman in Guj's Mehsana

Six persons were arrested for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Mehsana town in Gujarat, police said today. Police said that the woman was going from Ahmedabad to Siddhpur in Patan district to her in-laws place on Friday and had hired an autorickshaw at Radhanpur Circle. The driver of the autorickshaw raped her after taking her to a hotel, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjita Vanzara. "She was first raped in a hotel, then in the back seat of a rickshaw and inside a shop where she was also beaten up. At the shop, she raised an alarm and some people from a nearby eatery rushed to her help," said Vanzara.
