A 16-year-old girl from here was allegedly raped by eight youths from Villupuram district in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, the police said today. The girl, a school dropout, had developed intimacy with one of the accused from Vazhudavoor in Villupuram district during her frequent visits there to meet her grandparents. The accused allegedly took the girl to an isolated place at Vazhudvaoor recently and raped her. He also filmed the act on his mobile phone and threatened the girl with dire consequences if she informed anyone about it, the police said. He then told his seven friends about the girl and then blackmailed her to come to a palm grove in the district, where the eight youths allegedly raped her, they said. Police have registered a case against 11 persons here for the murder of a man over a land dispute. According to Circle Officer (Raniganj) Ramesh Chandra, there was a land dispute between the victim Durga Prasad Dubey (45) and his neighbour Rajendra Mishra. "Late last evening, Mishra and his associates thrashed Dubey with sticks and injured him seriously. Dubey succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Allahabad," Chandra said. Based on the complaints lodged by the family members of Dubey, a case has been registered against the 11 persons including Mishra, he added.
A 26-year-old man, who was facing charges of attempt to murder, escaped from a police lockup in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, following which a sub-inspector was suspended, police said today. The accused, Rohit Singh, was arrested last week along with his brother and one more person in connection with an attempt to murder case registered against them in the local police station, the official said. He said the accused complained of suffocation after which he was allowed to move out from his cell, from where he fled the police station. Sub-Inspector Abdul Kabir Wani has been placed under suspension in connection with the incident, the official said, adding a fresh case was registered against the accused and a hunt launched to nab him.
A 40-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his minor daughter. Special judge of (POCSO) court Girish Kumar Aggarwal convicted the man, a resident of Kaithun area of Kota district, yesterday under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Kamal Kant Sharma. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000, he added. The victim's mother along with her three children had been living separately from her husband since May 2017 as the man used to beat and torture her daily, the SPP said. Voicing concern over illegal water extraction, a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said authorities must ensure that as per the May 18, 2010 notification issued by the Lt Governor "no person, group, authority, association, institution" should withdraw groundwater through borewell or tube-well without permission of Central Ground Water Authority. Justice A M Badar, in a judgement delivered last week, granted anticipatory bail to the woman, who had filed an appeal against an order passed by the trial court last year rejecting her request for protection from arrest. A 15-year-old Indonesian who was raped by her brother has been sentenced to six months in prison for abortion. Singgih Hermawan, deputy chief of Batanghari police in Jambi province, said that both the girl and brother were convicted on Thursday. The 18-year-old brother received a two-year prison sentence for sexual offence against the minor. Prosecutors had demanded a one-year prison sentence for the girl and seven years for the brother. The Home Ministry has purchased 5,000 rape investigation kits which would be given to police stations across the country for speedy probe in sexual harassment cases, according to a senior Women and Child Development official. The official said that for now, five kits each would be provided to randomly-selected police stations and states have also been asked to chip in with their contribution. The kits are designed to carry out immediate medical investigation and aid the evidence-gathering exercise in sexual assault and rape cases. "The Home Ministry has procured 5,000 rape investigation kits that would be distributed to randomly selected police stations across the country for speedy probes in sexual harassment cases," he said. Each kit comes with a set of test tubes and bottles and costs Rs 200 to Rs 300, the official said. A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her friend's husband here, police said today. The man had introduced himself as her friend's brother-in-law and proposed to marry her, Station House Officer (SHO) D K Tyagi said. According to the woman, her friend had also lied about her relationship with the man, he said. She has lodged a complaint against the couple, who are at large, the officer said, adding that a case was registered at the Civil Line police station here yesterday. The complainant also said that she was raped at the couple's house in Delhi, the SHO said. Tyagi said according to the woman, when she asked him to marry her, the man refused saying that he was already married. A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped here for several months by a youth, who has been arrested, police said today. The youth had raped the girl on several occasions since January and threatened to upload videos of the incidents on the internet if she reported the matter, Circle Officer (CO) Rajive Kumar Singh.
