The Trump administration says it has reunified 364 children ages 5 and older with their families after they were separated at the border, still leaving hundreds to go before a court-imposed deadline of next Thursday. The Justice Department reaffirmed in a court filing yesterday that it has identified 2,551 children who may be covered by US District Judge Dana Sabraw's order. The administration and the American Civil Liberties Union are due back in court Friday for the fifth time in two weeks as the judge holds tightly to a July 26 for all children to be reunified. He set an earlier deadline of July 10 for dozens of children under 5.

An alleged thief was arrested today after a chase and a fight by two constables posted in northwest Delhi's Swaroop Nagar police station. Constables Pawan and Ratan Lal were out patrolling this morning when they spotted two motorcycle-borne men fleeing after snatching a truck driver's mobile phone, the police said. The constables followed the accused and intercepted them. While one of the men managed to escape, the other, identified as Sajid, got into a fight with the policemen and pushed Lal into a drain, the police said. Lal, however, did not let go of Sajid and pulled him inside, they added. Sajid also attacked the constable with a knife but was nabbed, they said. The police said Sajid has been involved in several cases of fighting earlier as well. A manhunt is underway to nab the second accused, the police said.
Lawyers today staged a protest demanding speedy investigation into the attack on a advocate's father here. Rohtan Singh, the father of advocate Rahul, was shot at on July 12 and is currently battling for life at a hospital here, Santosh Sharma, President of Mathura Bar Association said. A 17-year-old boy was killed allegedly by his friend in north Delhi's Burari area, the police said today. The victim, who was an agricultural labourer, had gone to Yamuna Khadar along with his friend around 1:30 pm, they said. When the victim's family reached the spot, they found him lying with his throat slit. The accused had fled the spot, Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) said. The matter is being investigated, police said.
Fifteen people were arrested today for allegedly smuggling 147 heads of livestock here, police said. Some local youths stopped six trucks this morning on the KGP expressway here and informed the police, Station House Officer, Sadar, Devendra Singh said. The animals were rescued from four of the six trucks, he said, adding that it is suspected that they were being taken to an abattoir. The matter is being investigated, the officer said.

Two men, including a former merchant navy officer, were arrested for allegedly duping candidates on the pretext of providing them jobs at the ONGC, police said today. A case was registered on June 6 based on a complaint received from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation claiming that people were being duped in its name, they said. The statement of a victim, Sandeep, resident of Bhiwani, Haryana, was also taken. He had been cheated of Rs 2.69 lakh by Naveen Kumar (35), officials said. Subsequently, Kumar and his accomplice Himanshu (27) were arrested on July 11. Upon questioning, Kumar revealed that he was a second officer in the merchant navy and had served in Ethopia before leaving the job in 2010, police said. He had started cheating people along with his uncle Vinay Kumar in 2012, officials said. A laptop, printers and documents used by the accused have been recovered, they added.
The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 by a voice vote, which seeks to make giving bribes to a public servant an offense and there is a provision of punishment in such act.In the House debate, Minister for Personnel and Public Grievances Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the legislation against the corruption has been made wide based. He said the bill has been brought in the House after it was deliberated in the Standing Committee, Law Commission and finally after holding consultations in the Select Committee.Members from other political parties including AIADMK, CPI and DMK participated in the discussion.The Bill introduces the offense of giving a bribe as a direct offense. However, a person who is compelled to give a bribe will not be charged with the offense if he reports the matter to law enforcement authorities within seven days.Now the bill will be tabled in the Lok Sabha.

The Goa police today filed a charge sheet in the magistrate's court against three Indore residents in the case related to a gang rape of a 20-year-old woman at Betalbhatim beach. Ram Bariya, Sanjeev Paal and Ishwar Makawana, who were visiting the state as tourists, are accused of raping a woman in front of her boyfriend in May this year. They were arrested within two days of the incident by Colva police. "We have filed a 292-page charge sheet against all three accused. They are charged with rape, robbery and criminal intimidation under the IPC apart from other relevant laws," said a senior police official.
A woman here has accused her husband of giving her irrevocable triple talaq and her father-in-law and brother-in-law of raping her after her parents failed to meet a huge demand of dowry from them, the police said today. Following the complaint by the victim, four members of her in-laws' family have been booked on charges of rape and other penal offences, including the torture for dowry, said Meerut Senior Superintendent of of Police Rajesh Kumar Pandey. A gym trainer was allegedly shot dead by his friends today over a monetary dispute in Rajnagar Extension area here, the police said. The deceased, Anuj Tyagi, had lent Rs 20,000 to his friends Ravinder and Vinay Tyagi and was mounting pressure on them to return it, Superintendent of Police (City) Akash Tomar said. The duo had called Anuj for a meeting in Rajnagar Extension and opened fire at him in a fit of rage as an argument broke out between them, he said. Anuj was rushed to a private hospital where he later succumbed to bullet injuries, the SP said. His father, Vinod Kumar, lodged a complaint against Ravinder and Vinay Tyagi. Ravinder has been arrested, while Vinay is absconding, Tomar said.
A police inspector was today booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau here after he was found in possession of alleged "ill-gotten" money of Rs 10 lakh in cash. Based on a tip-off that D Bhoomaiah was on his way to purchase agricultural land, sleuths intercepted his car and found him with the cash and the documents pertaining to agreement of sale of Rs 15 lakh, an ACB release said here. The inspector could not explain the source of the cash which the sleuths seized along with the documents. The car was also seized. A case of criminal misconduct was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB said. Simultaneous searches were being conducted by ACB officials at eight places including theresidences of theInspector, his relatives and friends in Karimnagar district and Hyderabad, the release said.
