Five men were arrested for allegedly carrying out burglaries in central Delhi, police said today. The five accused, identified as Suraj, Ajay Pata, Aslam,Jai Parkash and Rajender, used to hide valuables in a tunnel near Pusa roundabout, they added. With their arrest, 10 cases of house burglaries and thefts were solved, the police said, adding that articles worth Rs six lakh, including 10 laptops, 10 mobile phones, six branded watches, were recovered from them. On May 18, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Patel Nagar) Rohit Rajbir Singh nabbed Suraj while he was escaping after committing a burglary in a house in West Patel Nagar, they said. In a suspected case of road rage, an 18-year-old college student was thrashed allegedly by two men following an argument on road in northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar, the police said today. The incident took place on May 18. The victim, Harshit, told police that he was returning home on his scooter around 8 pm. When he reached Ravidas lane,a woman stopped the car on the road and when another vehicle from the opposite side came, the road got blocked. The driver of the other vehicle reversed it a little allowing Harshit to pass. While he was passing from between the two vehicles, the woman said something to Harshit which led to an argument between them. The woman's husband, Khem Singh, who was standing nearby, came and started thrashing Harshit. Singh's nephew also joined him in beating the college student, the police said. Radhika Vemula, mother of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, today offered her condolences to former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya after his 21-year-old son died of cardiac arrest. City civil and sessions judge P J Tamakuwala rejected the anticipatory bail plea moved by the duo in an FIR lodged against them on March 30 this year by complainant Raeeskhan Pathan. A 28-year-old woman, married to a leader of the ruling Janata Dal (United) in the state, was today found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house, police said. Khushboo Kumari, wife of JD(U) state general secretary and spokesman Pragati Mehta, was found hanging by her husband early today morning, SHO of Giddhaur police station in Jamui district, Brajesh Kumar said. Mehta claimed that he had slept in a hall adjacent to the room in which his wife was sleeping and he found her body of hanging from a ceiling fan, Kumar said. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday took Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in three-day custody in connection with the rape of a minor girl.A case has also been filed against Unnao MLA Sengar on charges of criminal conspiracy for falsely implicating the rape victim's father.The girl was allegedly raped by the BJP MLA at his residence on June 4, 2017, where she had gone to his house seeking a job.When the family complained, the victim's father was instead booked by the police under the Arms Act on April 3 earlier this year and put into jail on April 5. A dentist was today arrested from southern part of the citys Ranikuthi area for allegedly beating up a six-year-old girl whom he was attending to for her tooth problems. According to a complaint lodged by the childs mother, the dentist started beating up her daughter when she was unwilling to open her mouth when the doctor was trying to pluck one of her problematic tooth, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said. The Madras High Court today directed the state government to preserve the bodies of those killed in police firing during the anti-Sterlite protest at Tuticorin on May 22, until further orders. A vacation bench of justices T Ravindran and P Velmurugan also directed the government to file its counter affidavit by May 30 on a public interest litigation from three advocates. An Alaska man pleaded guilty today in exchange for a life prison sentence in the Florida airport shooting that killed five people and wounded six. The Delhi High Court today sought the CBI's response on a journalist's plea for quashing an FIR lodged against him by the agency for allegedly extorting Rs 15 crore from a Mumbai-based builder by portraying himself as an income tax "power-broker". Justice Mukta Gupta asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a report, indicating the status of its investigation in the matter, and listed it for hearing tomorrow. This is the second FIR against the scribe, Upendra Rai, against whom the agency had, on May 3, lodged a case for alleged dubious financial transactions and getting an Aerodrome Access Pass on the basis of false information. Two persons were arrested today in connection with the death of a Dalit man at Naifal village here in a suspected case of caste enmity, the police said. Ajay and Raju were held from Kazipura area. Two 315 bore country-made pistols and three live cartridges were seized from their possession, Assistant Superintendent of Police Aparna Gautama said. The 40-year-old Dalit man was shot dead on May 17 allegedly by five bike-borne assailants. Mahendra, a driver, was returning home after parking a private school bus, when the accused attacked him. He died on the spot. He was also a witness to his father's murder during a wedding procession on February 12, 2009. The "higher caste" people of the village had opposed the procession, the police said, adding that the murder case of the deceased's father was still under trial in a district court. In a bid to prevent Mahendra, who was the main witness in the murder case, from testifying against them, they shot him dead, the police had said.
