A 27-year-old man was arrested today for abducting and raping a minor girl, along with one of his accomplices, in Guwahati, a police officer said here. The victim, a student of Class VII, was taken after she got down from her school bus around 2.30pm yesterday in Bharalumukh area of the state capital. The police nabbed the youth based on a complaint filed by her father in the matter, the officer said, adding that a search operation has been launched to nab the absconding accomplice. A medical examination has been conducted on the girl and the police are waiting for her report, the officer added.
The family of a man who was killed allegedly in an accident in Dubai early this week has sought the help of the administration to bring back the body at Chhitka village in Nadia district. To that effect, Baburali Mondal, the father of one Mozammel Mondal (32) under Tehatta police station area, appealed through letters to the Tehatta BDO and also the district magistrate on Wednesday. Mozammel was killed allegedly in a crane accident in Dubai where he had gone there as a construction labourer on Monday evening. His employer informed the family on Tuesday, the victim's father alleged. His mother Tohara Bibi said,"the administration has assured us to provide help and cooperation to bring back the body." District Magistrate Sumit Gupta said he would forward the letter of the father of the deceased to the authorities concerned and provide help and cooperation to the family.
The Thane police has arrested two men for allegedly trying to extort Rs 2.5 lakh from a political leader in the city, an official said today. The accused got the contact number of the politician from his hoarding put up in the city and repeatedly called him between April 16 and 21 and demanded the money, he said. The victim approached the city police's anti-extortion cell which laid a trap and nabbed the two men, both aged 19 and hailing from the neighbouring Raigad district, when they came to collect the money at Amdoshi Phata here on April 21, the official added.
An additional zero in the insurance policy number made all the difference when the Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) settled a claim filed before it for a minor girl's death. Finding the policy number with the additional zero as fake, MACT member and district judge K D Vadane absolved the insurance company in the case and directed the owner of the offending tempo to pay Rs 5 lakh to the parents of the girl, who died in a road accident in 2013. The claimants - Ganesh Ramulu Racha (33) and his wife Umalata Ganesh Racha (28) - residents of Padmanagar in Bhiwandi township here, told the tribunal that on November 2, 2013 their daughter Vaishnu (then aged 5) was crossing the Hanuman Tekadi road when a speeding tempo hit her. A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth at gunpoint in Rahekda village in the district, police said here today. The incident happened yesterday in a nearby jungle in the village and the accused Kallu has been arrested, said Station House Officer (SHO) B P Singh of Bhopa police station. The victim was found in the jungle in semi-conscious state by the family members, he said. A 12-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from central Delhi's Anand Parbat in February, was rescued from the Nepal border, the police said today. The girl was kidnapped by a 23-year-old man when her parents were at work. She used to live with her parents in the transit camp for Kathputli Colony residents, they said. We were able to trace down the accused through his mobile phone, the police said. The girl told the police that the accused had sexually abused her and later married her. The matter is being probed, the police added.
