4 women arrested for breach of peace

Four women have been arrested for allegedly trying to breach peace at a locality here, police said today. Sanjida, Samina, Sheeba and Gulshera were arrested last night under relevant sections of CrPC as they were caught quarrelling over their kids, Circle Officer Harish Bhadorya said.

Ambedkar statue vandalised in Siddhartnagar

Unindentified persons vandalised the statue of B R Ambedkar in Gohaniya village here, triggering protests by locals, police said today. The statue was found damaged this morning. Soon locals gathered at the spot and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The statue is being replaced and a case has been lodged against unidentified persons, SP, Dr. Dharamvir said. Efforts are on to identify those behind the incident, he said. Domariyaganj MLA, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, who rushed to the village soon after the incident, alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched by the Samajwadi Party and the BSP and the culprits will not be spared. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit the district on April 2.

INX Media case: Peter Mukerjea sent to judicial custody till April 13

Former media baron Peter Mukerjea has been sent to judicial custody by a Delhi court till April 13 in connection with the INX Media case.Earlier this week, the court sent Peter to CBI custody till March 31.INX Media Ltd, which was owned by Mukerjea, had allegedly paid bribes to get a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval which was facilitated by former finance minister P. Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram. (ANI)However, on March 23, the Delhi High Court granted bail to Karti in connection with the case, on a surety of Rs 10 lakh.

Mother-son duo arrested for murdering farmer

A mother-son duo was arrested today for allegedly murdering a farmer in Meghakheri village here over a land dispute, police said. Kapil and his mother admitted to killing Bijender (35) to usurp the latter's land, they said. Kapil is the nephew of the deceased, police said. The farmer's body was found under the New Mandi police station on Thursday. He was missing since March 26, they added.

5 persons get 7 yrs imprisonment in fake currency case

A court here has awarded seven years imprisonment each to five persons after finding them guilty of circulating fake currency notes in Hansi town in Hisar district of Haryana in 2013. In the judgement delivered here yesterday, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Hisar, D R Chaliya convicted Ramesh Gupta, Virender Prasad Kushwah and Kameshwar, all residents of Bihar, Krishan of Dhani Kumharan in Hisar district and Bharat Bhushan of Jagdish Colony, Hansi. Another accused Mohinder of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh is still absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court. Besides imprisonment, all the five accused were ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 each and in case of default of payment of fine, they would have to further undergo an imprisonment for six months. Illegal arms unit busted in UP

Police today claimed to have busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit at Civil Lines area here and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition. A man was arrested in this connection, while two others managed to escape, SP (city) Ombir Singh said. Seventeen barrels of pistols, a gun and several other weapons were found from the fields nearby the illegal unit last evening, he said.

Gujarat: Dalit man killed for riding horse, 3 held

Three people were detained on Friday night after a 21-year-old Dalit man was allegedly killed for riding a horse in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district.The deceased identified as Pradeep Rathod, was objected and threatened by some of his co-villagers to not ride the horse a few days back."Pradeep had intended to sell the horse following the threats but I had convinced him of not doing so. When he did not return home till late yesterday night, we got worried and started looking for him. We found him lying dead on the road leading to our farm," victim's father Kalubhai Rathod told ANI."The horse was also lying dead at a little distance," father added.Meanwhile, police said, "Three suspects have been detained from a nearby village regarding this matter. Delhi couple murder convict sentenced to death

A taxi driver was sentenced to death and three co-accused to life imprisonment for killing a tourist couple from Delhi over three years ago. Pronouncing the quantum of punishment in the case yesterday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sultan said the incident had tarnished the image of Devbhoomi, a tourist state. By handing down the death sentence to the main accused and life imprisonment to others a stern message was being given, the court said. The main accused Rajudas, the man who was driving the couple in his Bolero to Tiger fall from Chakrata and who hatched a conspiracy in collusion with three of his friends to loot and kill them, was sentenced to death while his three accomplices were handed down life imprisonment. Stephon Clark shot eight times in his back

Stephon Clark, an American black man who was shot dead last week after two law enforcement officers misunderstood him as an accused of breaking car windows in California, was shot eight times in his back, according to an independent autopsy.The postmortem report, commissioned by Clark's family and conducted by an American private medical examiner Dr. Bennet Omalu showed that the 22-year-old was shot three times in his lower back, twice near his shoulder and once each in his neck and under the armpit. INX Media case: CBI to produce Peter Mukerjea before Delhi Court

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will produce former media baron Peter Mukerjea before the Patiala House Court on Saturday in connection with the INX Media case.This comes five days after Mukerjea was sent to CBI custody.On Wednesday, the investigative agency was to move a plea seeking permission to record Mukerjea's statement before the court in connection with the aforementioned case, as per provisions of Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).INX Media Ltd, which was owned by Mukerjea, had allegedly paid bribes to get a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval, which was facilitated by former finance minister P. Delhi Court to hear money laundering case against Misa Bharti

The Patiala House Court on Saturday will continue hearing the money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar.The duo was granted bail on Monday by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the aforementioned case, on the condition that they cannot leave the country without the Court's permission.Nearly 10 days ago, the ED had seized a farmhouse belonging to the RJD Chief's daughter.Misa and Shailesh's involvement is being probed in a money laundering case worth Rs. 8,000 crore, investigation for which began in July last year.Apart from the ED, the Income Tax (I-T) department has also issued a final attachment order against Bharti and her husband in a benami assets case.Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court earlier in January granted bail to two accused businessmen, Surendra Jain and Virender Jain in connection with the same case, and asked them to .

Rajasthan: Woman arrested for throwing acid on infant to cure pneumonia

The police on Friday registered a case against an unidentified woman for allegedly throwing acid on a one-month-old baby here in Sawai Madhopur.The woman, a native of Vinoba Basti, had allegedly thrown acid on the baby as part of traditional pneumonia treatment.One-month-old Priyanshu, who was suffering from pneumonia, was taken by his relatives to Vinoba Basti on March 26 for treatment. However, a duplicate doctor there, as part of treatment, used chemical on the child, which left burn marks on his chest and feet.After returning from Vinoba Basti, the child's health began deteriorating, after which he was taken to a hospital in the vicinity for medical examination. The police have arrested one individual in connection with the murder of a six-year-old child here in Kapashera area.The body of the child, who went missing on March 27, was found on the road the same night itself.Thereafter, the police took one person into custody for interrogation. Teenage girl raped by two men in UP

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men at Bhopa village here today, police said. The girl's mother complained that her daughter went to a nearby shop to purchase some medicines. When she was returning home, the two accused - Waseem (22) and Mukhbir (20) - picked her up and raped her, they said. 2 children killed in freak accident

In a freak incident, two children who were playing between two stationary trucks were killed after a moving truck rammed into one of the stationary vehicle on the Zakhira flyover today, police said. Iftikar Alam (10) and Mohd Aftab (12), who lived in slums near Zakhira, were playing between the two trucks that were parked on the flyover, they said. A truck, bearing Haryana registration number, rammed into one of the trucks causing it to hit the truck parked in front of it, the police said. The two children, who were playing between the trucks, got crushed when one of the parked truck hit the other stationary truck, they said. Alam and Aftab were rushed to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital hospital by the police where they were declared brought dead, the police said. Court suspends Daler Mehndi's jail term in human trafficking case

A court here today suspended the two-year jail term awarded to Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi in a 2003 human trafficking case. The Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge suspended the sentence after admitting an appeal moved by his defence counsel challenging the conviction. On March 16, Court of Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Saini had convicted the singer in the 2003 human trafficking case. He was sentenced to two years in jail and was subsequently granted bail. Mehndi had been granted bail by the trial court for the filing of the appeal in the higher court. According to defence counsel Brijinder Singh Sodhi, they had filed the appeal before the appellant court on Wednesday and it was taken up for the hearing today. AAP's Sanjay Singh gets interim bail in 10-year-old case

A court here today granted interim bail to AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with a 10-year-old case. The AAP leader appeared before the district and sessions court after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him in connection with the case relating to staging of dharna demanding restoring of power supply in Sultanpur in 2008. He was granted interim bail on personal bond of Rs. 30,000, government counsel Tarkeshwar Singh said. The matter of his regular bail will be taken up on April 11, he said. In 2008, Shahganj Police Chowki in-charge Krishna Murari Sharma had lodged a case against 17 people, including Singh, for staging protest before the Jamal gate in Kotwali city police station area.
