The police has questioned over 60 people in connection with the CBSE leak case, including the administrators of over 10 WhatsApp groups on which the leaked question papers were shared, as the investigators sought to trace the origin of the leak. All those questioned, including tutors and students, have revealed that they got the papers from someone else. There is nothing to indicate that money was charged for sharing these papers, an official privy to the probe said. It appears that if an amount was charged, it was quite minuscule and most of the papers were shared "out of friendship", police said. A child was bitten by a monkey allegedly set on him by its owner during a quarrel here yesterday night, police said. The owner of the monkey has been booked on the complaint of the minor's father under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, police added. "The accused and his neighbour, Asgarali Khan, are neighbours and have a history of altercations over petty issues. Yesterday night, during one such quarrel, the accused allegedly set his pet monkey on the child. The monkey bit the minor," Kashimira police officials said. The child was discharged after treatment at a local hospital, police said, adding that further investigation into the complainant's allegations were underway.
The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for violating the model code of conduct.According to the Centre ruling party, the Chief Minister "bribed" two women, who welcomed him at Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru, with Rs 2,000 each.The party further alleged that Siddaramaiah paid Rs 2,000 to a priest of the temple in an attempt to polarise him ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Election.Earlier in the day, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee filed a complaint with the EC against BJP president Amit Shah, citing the violation of model code of conduct. Two armymen who allegedly stabbed their colleague to death and burnt his body at the Military campus in Vivek Nagar here were arrested today. A youth allegedly hurled a brick at Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij's official car in Panipat today, breaking a glass pane of the vehicle, but the senior BJP leader managed to escape unhurt, the police said. The incident took place this afternoon in front of the mini secretariat complex, following which the 24-year-old accused and his accomplice, aged around 25, were taken immediately taken in police custody, a police official said. A 27-year-old medical student, who was knocked down last week by a speeding car on Marine Drive, died today at the state-run JJ Hospital, police said. Dipali Lahamate, a dental student of Nair hospital and Dental College died at around 5:15pm, officials informed. Lahamate, who hails from Aurangabad, was hit by a speeding car around 3:30 pm on March 24 near Taraporewala Aquarium and went into coma due to severe brain injuries, police said. The Madras High Court has reserved its orders on an appeal filed in the decade-old Law College students clash case, in which both groups have expressed a desire to reach a compromise. Two groups of students of Dr Ambedkar Government Law College, located near the high court campus, had clashed in 2008. Police had named 43 persons as accused in the case. A sessions court had, in 2016, sentenced 21 persons to three years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each. The trial court also temporarily suspended their sentence as they preferred to go on appeal. They approached the high court seeking permission to strike a compromise. The request was made in the appeal moved by them challenging the trial court order. Most of them, who are now lawyers, have been temporarily barred from practising by the Bar council in view of the conviction. Directing them to file individual 'affidavits of compromise,' Justice R Suresh Kumar recently reserved orders on the appeal.
Leading Senegalese politician Khalifa Sall was handed a five-year jail term for fraud today, a sentence that will rule him out of presidential elections due next February. Sall, 62, who is mayor of Dakar, had denied the charges against him as politically motivated. He had been accused of fraudulent use of public funds, for which he was also fined five million CFA francs (7,625 euros). He was found not guilty on charges of criminal conspiracy, money laundering and misappropriating public funds. The Allahabad High court today directed the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to re-evaluate the answer scripts of preliminary examination conducted for recruitment in upper subordinate services for which advertisement was issued on February 22, 2017. The court denied to direct hold fresh preliminary examinations. The judgement was passed by a two-judge bench comprising Justices Pankaj Mithal and Saral Srivastava after hearing a dozen of petitions filed by more than hundreds of candidates who have alleged that answers to several of the questions were incorrect. The bench observed, "We do not find it proper to direct the Commission to hold fresh Preliminary Examination rather we deem it proper that for the ends of the justice, the writ petitions should be disposed of with some directions". The court directed the Commission that it shall re-evaluate the answer scripts of the preliminary examination of all the candidates by deleting question numbers 67/140/44/106 of series .
An Azerbaijani journalist forced into exile in France was seriously wounded and his wife was killed today in a gun attack near the southern city of Toulouse, police said. Rahim Namazov, a father of three, fled his oil-rich homeland in Central Asia for France in 2010 after suffering death threats and being imprisoned. Yevgeni Nikulin, who is also sought by his native Russsia on fraud charges, had been in a Prague prison since he was arrested in the Czech capital in 2016 in a joint operation with the FBI. The case comes amid accusations by Washington that Russia tried to "interfere" through hacking in the 2016 US election won by Donald Trump, charges the Kremlin has dismissed. Four members of a family, including two minors, were today killed when their motorcycle was hit by a vehicle near the Shambhu border in this district, police said. Devinder Sharma (30) along with his wife Shivani Sharma, eight-month-old son Sumit and daughter Diksha (8) were on their way to pay obeisance at Mansa Devi Temple in Manimajra, Panchkula when the accident took place on the Shambhu Tepla road, they said. Police in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh have arrested three men for allegedly killing a cow. Angry locals tonsured the accused's heads before handing them over to police yesterday, said a senior police officer here. District Superintendent of Police Vipul Khare said that Imran (21), Indu Bhuria (21) and Mangu Bhuria (20) were arrested for allegedly killing a cow at Nehtada village under Jobat police station limits, 38 km from here. They were arrested under IPC section 379 (theft) and provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act. Imran allegedly slaughtered the animal, belonging to one Nihal Singh, after stealing it, and kept the meat in the houses of Mangu and Indu. After the alleged theft and slaughter came to light, angry villagers tonsured the three men's heads before handing them over to police, the SP said. The Central Information Commission has directed the Home Ministry to disclose the list of victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots who have received the compensation. On a complaint filed by one Navdeep Gupta, Information Commissioner Yashovardhan Azad issued the orders to disclose details sought by him. Gupta had sought to know from the Ministry complete list of beneficiaries including their names, address, loss in genocide, compensation availed and compensation details. When he could not get any response from the ministry, Gupta filed a complaint with the commission where the ministry refuted allegations of any malafide intention in not responding to his RTI plea.
