A truck driver was electrocuted when the vehicle came in contact with high tension live wire on Kandela-Jahanpura road in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said today. The deceased, identified as Nasreen Singh (40), was yesterday electrocuted after the loaded truck came in contact with a live wire dangling on the road, they said. However, according to police, the helper of the truck narrowly escaped the tragedy. Meanwhile, the irate villagers protested against the power department over their alleged negligence in the incident. A case has been registered and probe is on, police added.
A six-year-old girl, who had gone missing since February 14, was found raped and murdered in an agriculture field on Thursday in Rajasthan's Jhalawar city.The deceased belongs to Bhil community from Chota Raipur village under Jhalawar city police station area.Police said, "The minor has been murdered after being raped. It was in 1990 when the Centre created a tribunal to examine the conflict and address the water shortage.The CWDT had unanimously passed an order on how the water should be shared between the states after determining the total availability of water in the Cauvery basin.The apex court during the period of trials had passed several orders .

The customs department on Thursday seized foreign currency equivalent to Rs 24,89,375 from a Dubai-bound passenger at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here.The officers intercepted the passenger on February 14 on the basis of specific intelligence, informed Dr Amandeep Singh, the additional commissioner of customs.The recovered currency was seized under section 110 of Customs Act, 1962 and the accused was arrested under section 104 of the said act.Further investigation is underway.
A US judge sentenced a pair of Russians who led a massive hacking and data breach scheme to lengthy criminal sentences, the US Department of Justice announced today. Vladimir Drinkman, 37, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Dmitriy Smilianets, was sentenced to over four years by US District Judge Jerome Simandle in New Jersey. The Russian nationals, who had previously pled guilty, are part of a gang that targeted major retailers and the Nasdaq stock exchange. They stole some 160 million credit card numbers and then sold them through online markets, officials said. The conspiracy resulted in millions of dollars of losses, "one of the largest such schemes ever prosecuted in the United States," the Justice Department said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted a raid at a showroom of Gili Jewellers in Thane's Viviana Mall in connection with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.The showroom was sealed after the raid.Earlier on February 15, the agency conducted searches at 17 premises of businessman Nirav Modi and Geetanjali Gems across India in connection with the same case.The agency also seized stocks of gold, diamond and other precious stones worth Rs 5100 crore.The raids come after the PNB detected a 1.77 billion dollar scam, in which jeweller Nirav Modi acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders.The CBI had received the complaint from PNB on January 28 and a case was registered on January 31.
A 32-year-old Intelligence Bureau official was found dead along roadside in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, police said today. The official identified as Chetan Prakesh Galav, who is posted in New Delhi, went to his parents house in Ramganjmandi town last morning, SHO of Jhalawar's Sadar police station Sanjay Prasad Meena said. The official failed to reach his house in Jhalawar till late in the evening yesterday after which his family members started searching for him, he said. He was found lying along the Bhawanimandi-Jhalawar road by his family members who rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the SHO said. The official's body was handed over to his family members after postmortem today for the last rites, another police officer Sanjay Prasad Meena said. Exact reason of death could be known only after the postmortem report is received, he said. A case has been registered in the matter and investigation was underway, Meena said.

A court here today awarded death sentence to three persons for the rape and murder of a minor girl in 2012. Additional District Judge Satyendra Rajak awarded capital punishment to Sonu, Rupesh and Prashant for the murder of a 12-year-old girl whom they had raped and brutalised - mutilating and inserting foreign objects inside her private parts. The court held that the heinous offence, that took place on May 11, 2012, in Badhara Kothi police station area, fell in the "rarest of rare" category and awarded death sentence to the three accused. The court also slapped them with a fine of Rs three lakh each.
A 10-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly molested by a cab driver in Mongolpuri area here, police said today. A case has been registered under relevant law including under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act and the accused driver, identified as Kamboj, has been arrested, a police officer said. Pakistans Supreme Court today issued an arrest warrant for the country's former envoy to the US Husain Haqqani after he failed to appear before it in the 'Memogate' case. The Memogate case is based on a 'memo' which Haqqani, who currently lives in the US, allegedly gave to a high-ranking American official in May 2011, seeking US help against possible military intervention. Haqqani denied any role in the 'memo' but a judicial commission in 2012 held him responsible. A case was also launched at the Supreme Court against him and he was forced to quit as Pakistan's Ambassador to the US. Haqqani left the country in January 3, 2013 after a commitment with the court that he would come back to face charges but never returned. A 22-year-old married woman was hacked to death on Valentine's Day by a youth who after killing her surrendered at the Modinagar police station here, an official said today.
