Court rejects cheating complaint against docs of pvt hospital

A Delhi court has dismissed a man's plea against doctors of a renowned private hospital here for allegedly cheating him by overcharging for a pacemaker implant surgery of his father. The man moved the court challenging an order by which the doctors were summoned as accused for offence of dishonest misappropriation of property under the IPC. He had instead sought framing of cheating charge against the doctors. Additional Sessions Judge S K Gupta rejected the plea saying it was a second revision petition as another sessions court had already rejected his plea in 2015. "The revision against the summoning order was filed. The court has considered the fact whether any graver offence is made out or not. The revision petition was dismissed. "The said order has attained finality meaning thereby that the respondents (doctors) will be proceeded for offence under section 403 of IPC. The present revision tantamount to the second revision. This court cannot sit over the order passed .

CBI arrests GST commissioner for bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested GST commissioner of Kanpur, Sansar Singh, on the charges of bribery.Singh, his three official staff and five private persons were arrested for allegedly taking and demanding bribe.The CBI has also registered an FIR against Singh's wife.Further investigation is on.

Ex-US gymnastics doctor's hearing suspended

Former US gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar's hearing was suspended in a Michigan courtroom after he was lunged (???????????) at by the enraged father of three daughters, who were sexually assaulted by the disgraced (we cant be opinionated) doctor.Randall Margraves tried to attack the disgraced doctor after two of his daughters, Madison and Lauren, had finished their tearful victim statements on the second day of a sentencing hearing in Eaton County, much as nearly 200 women, including Margraves' third daughter, did in earlier court sessions.Margraves asked Judge Janice Cunningham for "five minutes in a locked room with this demon", but she said she could not do that, Sky News reported.He revised his request to one minute which was also denied.Margraves then rushed at Nassar and had to be tackled by bailiffs and as he was handcuffed he yelled,"I want that son of a b****."Margraves had to be restrained by three court security officers, according to the reports.The judge later accepted ...

Kashmiri students assault: Haryana Police registers FIR

Ammo seller to Las Vegas shooter charged

An Arizona man, who sold ammunition to the gunman who carried out October's Las Vegas massacre, has been arrested on the charges of manufacturing armor-piercing bullets.According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Phoenix, ammunition dealer Douglas Haig's fingerprints were on armor-piercing bullets found inside the Las Vegas hotel room where Stephen Paddock launched the October 1 attack.An Amazon shipping box, marked with Haig's name and Mesa address, was found in Paddock's hotel room, filing documents show.Haig, 55, appeared in court on Friday and was released on this own recognizance with specific conditions that were not spelled out in court proceedings. Islam scholar Tariq Ramadan charged with rape: legal source

Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan was charged with rape today, a judicial source said, following claims by two women that he assaulted them in French hotel rooms in 2009 and 2012. Ramadan, who was arrested by French police on Wednesday, has now been charged with connected charges of rape and rape of a vulnerable person, the source said. Man who sold ammo to Vegas shooter is charged

An Arizona man who sold ammunition to the gunman in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history was charged today with manufacturing armor-piercing bullets, according to court documents. Unfired armor-piercing bullets found inside the Las Vegas hotel room where the attack was launched on October 1 contained the fingerprints of ammunition dealer Douglas Haig of Arizona, according to the complaint filed in federal court in Phoenix. It says Haig didn't have a license to manufacture armor-piercing ammunition. The records don't say if the ammunition was used in the attack. Islamic Scholar charged with rape

A Swiss-born scholar of Islam, Tariq Ramadan, has been charged with rape based on allegations made against him by two women in France.According to a spokesperson of the French judiciary, Ramadan (55) was placed under formal investigation on charges of rape, reported the New York Times.Ramadan would be kept in custody while a judge decides on whether to grant him bail. The prosecution has requested that he remain under arrest, it reported.The theologian and philosopher, Ramadan, however, denied the accusations of rape and sexual assault made by the women, four months ago.The local media said that France police had investigated the allegations made against him for three months.Ramadan, one of the well-known Islamic scholars in Europe, has authored several books on Islam and on the Western world.The accusations have, however, put a dent in his image as a pious family man.

Russian cyber-fraud suspect extradited to US

A Russian man accused of victimizing thousands of Americans with ransomware and spam has been extradited to the United States from Spain, US officials announced today. Peter Levashov, 37, was due to appear before a federal judge in Connecticut where he faces hacking, wire and email fraud, identity theft and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors say Levashov ran the "Kelihos" botnet, a network of thousands of infected computers used to harvest internet login credentials, distribute bulk spam emails sometimes used for fraudulent "pump-and-dump" stock promotions and install malicious software on unsuspecting users' computers. In any given 24-hour period, Levashov's network allegedly generated more than 2,500 spam emails advertising such schemes as services to other potential cyber-criminals. INX Media case: Indrani to be produced in Delhi court

The Mumbai Court on Saturday allowed a production warrant against Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, from Delhi's Patiala House Court in connection with the INX media case.A special court for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases in Delhi had directed that she be produced before it.The ED had earlier registered a case against INX Media, its founder Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).INX Media has been accused of violating Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) guidelines while receiving investments from Mauritius.Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's son Karti is also an accused in the case, which relates to FIPB approval granted in 2006 for receipt of funds by INX Media.The Mukerjeas are currently facing a trial in Mumbai for conspiring to kill Sheena Bora, Indrani's daughter from an earlier marriage, in April 2012.

Indian-origin man jailed for murdering ex-wife in UK

An Indian-origin UK man on trial for killing his ex-wife and then stuffing her body into a suitcase was today sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in jail for murder. Ashwin Daudia had denied the murder charge, claiming he lost his temper during an argument with Kiran Daudia at their home in Leicester last January and did not attack her deliberately. AMRI case: Asphyxia main cause of toddler's death, says post-

Asphyxia, a condition in which the body is deprived of oxygen, was the main cause of death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl whose family had claimed that she was not provided oxygen by the hospital administration. The girl, Oyetri Dey, had died at the AMRI Mukundapur unit last month. Family members, including her mother, had alleged that she was not provided oxygen or given cardiopulmonary resus citation (CPR) on time after she had a convulsion following administration of an injection. "Death was due to the effects of asphyxia as noted above ante-mortem in nature," the post mortem report, a copy of which is with the PTI, said. The girl was admitted to the hospital with acute bronchitis on January 15. She was recovering well and about to be discharged but died two days later, on January 17 morning. HC stays proceedings before NCLT in Nissan-Renault case

The Madras High Court today stayed proceedings related to the winding up petition involving car makers Nissan Motor India and Renault Nissan Automotive India before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose gave the interim order on a petition filed by the two companies challenging the transfer of the winding up petition earlier heard by the high court to the NCLT. The petition was transferred to the NCLT under the new Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). The petitioner sought to declare the provisions of the Companies (Transfer of Pending Proceedings) Rules as ultra vires of the Constitution and beyond the legislative competence of Parliament. The rules enable winding up proceedings filed under the Companies Act before the high court to be treated as an application under the IBC to be adjudicated by the NCLT.
