A 19-year-old woman, who went missing this month, from Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district was found in Punjab, police said today. The girl, a student, was reported missing from Doda district on December 7 and was found at the Patiala guest house in Punjab on Sunday night, they said. On December 7, her parents lodged a complaint in the district's police station claiming that their daughter went missing after she went to her school, and that they suspect kidnapping. According to the police, during investigation it was found out that the girl had been taken to New Delhi. "A police party was rushed to Delhi and several locations were raided in the union capital, besides Pune and Hyderabad," the police official said. However, with the help of technical surveillance the girl's location was finally traced to Punjab. A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his aged father here after he constantly reprimanded him for not doing any job to earn his livelihood, police said today. The accused, Suresh Dhinda, and his father Dharma Dhinda (70), residents of Paya village in Bhiwandi taluka here, used to have frequent quarrels as the former did not do any work to sustain himself, a police official said. On Sunday night, the duo again had a tiff following which Suresh Dhinda attacked his father with a saw, killing him on the spot. The accused then fled his home, he said. The police yesterday sent the body for postmortem to a government hospital. The Bhiwandi taluka police registered an offence against the accused under IPC section 302 (murder), the official said, adding that a search was on to nab him.
Pakistan's ousted premier Nawaz Sharif today appeared before an accountability court here to face the corruption charges filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau in the Panama Papers scandal. Police in Washim district of Maharashtra have arrested a 23-year-old man who, with two minor boys, allegedly beat a monkey to death. The incident took place at Gramkura village in Risod tehsil on December 16. It came to notice after its video went viral on social media yesterday. According to the police, Pawan Bangar (23) and his two minor friends caught a monkey which had entered Bangar's farm. While two of them beat the animal mercilessly till it died on the spot, one of the minor boys shot a video of the incident on his mobile phone, and circulated it on WhatsApp. As the video went viral, it was brought to the notice of forest officials. Forest officer Mohan Bhosle lodged a police complaint yesterday, following which Bangar was arrested under section 9 (prohibition of hunting) of the Wildlife Protection Act. While Bangar was sent in police custody by a local court for five days today, the two minor boys were sent to juvenile justice home. Further probe is on.
The body of an unidentified man was today found in a drain in northeast Delhi's Welcome colony, the police said. The body is yet to be identified, they said. The body of a man, aged between 25 and 30 years, was found in a plastic bag during a cleaning work, the police said. "Some people were cleaning the drain when they spotted a bag floating in the drain. They then informed the police," a senior police officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla said they have registered a case of murder and have launched a probe in the matter. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) today said the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had issued directives without giving a full opportunity to it to present its case. The NGT on December 13 had declared the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas as a "silence zone" and prohibited religious offerings beyond the entry point. However, on December 14, the tribunal clarified that it has not imposed any restriction including on chanting of mantras and singing of bhajans inside the cave shrine, following protests over its decision. The NGT had said the only restriction imposed was that any devotee or any individual should maintain silence while standing in front of the "Amarnath Ji Maha Shivling", a natural formation in the cave. The CBI today told the Delhi High Court that it has registered a criminal case over the alleged leak of question paper for the AIIMS MBBS entrance examination this year from an institute in Ghaziabad. The submission was made before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar, hearing a PIL seeking a court-monitored probe into the alleged illegalities and irregularities during the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) MBBS entrance exam held on May 28 this year. The AIIMS also told the court that the enquiry committee, set up by them, have found that one student was indulging in cheating. The CBI has said that "specific questions in the leaked screen shots were used in SET-3 of shift-2 at exam centre - HR Institute of Technology, Morta, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh". A court here today sentenced six people to life imprisonment in a 17-year-old murder case. Siwan Additional District and Sessions Judge (IV) Manoj Kumar Tiwary also acquitted one person. Ram Naresh Dubey of Maniya village under Asanw police station was killed on February 17, 2000 due to personal enmity. Dubey's wife had lodged an FIR against these seven persons.
An Afghan national along with 15 others were arrested by the Gurgaon Police for allegedly running a sex racket in Sector 39 here. In a late night raid yesterday, four men and 12 girls, including the Afghan national, were held, based on a tip-off. "Ganga Villa Guest House manager Kaptan Singh, kingpin of the racket, who indulged in immoral activities in connivance with the owner of the guest house, is among the arrested," Gurgaon Police PRO Ravinder Kumar said. All the 16 accused have been booked under relevant sections of IPC in Sadar police station, the officer said.

Congress leader Oommen Chandy has moved the Kerala High Court, seeking to quash the solar panel scam inquiry commission report, alleging that it travelled beyond the scope of the terms of reference. In his petition filed on Saturday, the former chief minister alleged that the judicial commission's findings were based on a letter written by one of the accused in the scam, Saritha S Nair. The petition is likely to be considered tomorrow. Chandy said he was one among others whose name was "illegally" included in the letter written by Saritha in relation to her alleged sexual exploitation and harassment. Such a case can only be enquired into and probed under provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure and not by a Commission of Inquiry, he said and sought to quash the report. The Bombay High Court today issued a notice to the Maharashtra government on a PIL challenging a recent amendment to section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), as per which a magistrate could not order an FIR against a public servant without the prior sanction of the government. A bench of justices N H Patil and N W Sambre directed the state to respond to the petition and posted the matter for hearing after four weeks. The petition was filed in September by social activist and lawyer Abha Singh. It had sought for the amendment to be declared unconstitutional and ultra vires (beyond the powers). The petition claimed that bringing in the amendment was beyond the powers accorded to the state legislature as it intended to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 "through the backdoor". An Indian-origin Barclays Bank employee from London has been jailed for over six years for his role in a conspiracy to launder over 2.5 million pounds. Jinal Pethad used the 'Dridex' Trojan malware in the scam, which involved the 29-year-old acting as the "personal bank manager" to money launderers Pavel Gincota and Ion Turcan. He set up 105 sham bank accounts for them using false identity documents. Pethad pleaded guilty to conspiring to launder money between 2014 and 2016 at the Old Bailey court here last week and was sentenced to six years and four months in prison. "Jinal Pethad abused his position of trust at the bank to knowingly set up sham accounts for Gincota and Turcan, providing a vital service which enabled them to launder millions," said Mark Cains from the National Cyber Crime Unit at the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA). A court here today awarded life imprisonment to four members of a family for the murder of a relative over a property dispute in 2009. Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar sentenced to life Domi Yadav, his wife Phulwa Devi and their sons Gore Lal Yadav and Ajay Yadav in the 2009 murder case. Construction activities will be be prohibited within 50 metres from the edge of river Ganga in hilly areas as it would now be treated as 'No-Development Zone', the National Green Tribunal said today, modifying its earlier order. "No-development zones" are areas where no construction including commercial or residential buildings can come up. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said that keeping in view the topography of mountainous regions, there was a necessity of revisiting its direction.
