The Supreme Court Tuesday refused to stay its verdict allowing entry of women of all age groups into the Sabarimala temple but agreed to hear in open court on January 22 a batch of review petitions in the matter. The review petitions against the September 28 verdict were taken up 'in-chamber' by a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices R F Nariman, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra. "All the Review Petitions along with all pending applications will be heard in Open Court on 22nd January, 2019 before the appropriate Bench. We make it clear that there is no stay of the judgment and order of this Court dated 28th September, 2018 passed in Writ Petition (Civil) No.373 of 2006 (Indian Young Lawyers Association & Ors. vs. The State of Kerala & Ors)," the order said. The body of a man was found dumped by a road near some fields in Narela of Rohini district Tuesday, police said. A passerby who spotted the body informed the police about it around 7 am, they added. On reaching the spot, the police said, they found a body of a man, apparently between 50 and 55 years of age, dumped on a roadside near an isolated area in Holambi Kalan area in Narela, a senior police officer said. A bullet injury was visible on the chest, the official said. A case was registered and the matter was being probed, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said. Police are probing all angles, including that of personal enmity, the officer said. Officials were also scanning through the profiles of missing persons, the police said, adding the body would be sent for post-mortem after it was identified.
Delhi's Patiala House Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of journalist Upendra Rai who was arrested in an alleged money laundering case.Contesting against the bail plea, Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted that the accused may influence the witnesses and may hamper the probe if released on bail.Denying the relief to the accused journalist, the court said that charges against Rai were of serious nature.On August 9, the Patiala House Special Court took cognisance of prosecution complaint filed by ED against Rai before the Special Judge (the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED filed the complaint against Rai on August 6 in an alleged money laundering case to the tune of Rs. 29, 58,09,570.Rai was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) under PMLA on June 8 and has been in judicial custody since then.

A banking court on Tuesday extended the interim bail previously granted to former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, till December 10 in connection to a money laundering case.Earlier today, Zardari and Talpur appeared before the banking court in Karachi for the case. Two persons were electrocuted to death at a Chhath puja pandal here, police said Tuesday. Amit Yadav (26) and Ashish Kumar (25) were taking care of some electrical work inside the pandal when the incident happened on Monday night, they said. Both of them were taken to the district hospital but could not be saved, they added. Police have sent the bodies for postmortem examination.
A 38-year-old farmer was found dead in his field in Baruki village here on Tuesday, a day after he went missing, the police said. The deceased, Satbir had gone to irrigate his field on Monday but did not return home. After a search, his body was found in his field, Circle officer, Bhopa police station, Ram Mohan Sharma said. The cause of his death is not known yet, he added. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and the matter is being probed, Sharma said.
Taking note of pollution and traffic congestion during functions at banquet halls, farmhouses and hotels here, the National Green Tribunal has formed a committee to stop activities that lead to degradation of the environment. The green panel has also asked the committee to prepare an action plan in this regard within a month. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said marriage halls are violating norms by organising weddings and other functions without any permission. The green panel formed a joint committee with representatives of municipal corporations, the Central Ground Water Authority, the Delhi Jal Board, the Delhi Police and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. The committee, which has to meet at least twice a month, will be headed by the Delhi government's urban development secretary, the tribunal said. The Delhi High Court on Monday deferred the petition filed by Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the owner of National Herald newspaper, against the Centre's decision to cancel its lease and vacate the Herald House by November 15 on grounds of violation of lease clauses. The Supreme Court on Tuesday made it clear that fresh pleas related to the Sabarimala Temple will be heard only after it decides the earlier petitions seeking review of the judgment allowing entry of women of all age groups into the shrine in Kerala. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said a five-judge bench is scheduled to hear in-chamber the review petitions at 3 pm Tuesday.
