Indian ex-Tesla employee charged in USD 9.3 mln embezzlement scheme

A 32-year-old Indian man, a former employee at American electric car manufacturer Tesla, has been charged for allegedly stealing USD 9.3 million from the company by falsifying financial documents to divert payments from one supplier to another. Salil Parulekar has been charged with nine counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. If convicted, the maximum penalty for each count of wire fraud is twenty years' imprisonment and a USD 250,000 fine. The maximum sentence for aggravated identity theft is two years in prison and a USD 250,000 fine. A federal grand jury issued an indictment against Parulekar last week, charging him with engaging in the embezzlement scheme, US Attorney Alex Tse and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge John Bennett said. Delhi court dismisses bail plea of journalist Upendra Rai in money laundering case

A Delhi court Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of journalist Upendra Rai, arrested in a money laundering case related to alleged extortion and dubious financial transactions. Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal denied the relief to Rai, saying the allegations against him were serious. The court took note of the submissions made by ED's special public prosecutors N K Matta and Nitesh Rana that the accused may influence the witnesses and hamper the probe if released on bail. The journalist was arrested on June 8 by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at the Tihar Jail here, moments after he secured bail in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case related to alleged extortion and dubious financial transactions.

Thane bizman gets extortion threat from gangster Ravi Pujari

A businessmen here in Maharashtra has filed a police complaint, alleging that he has been receiving extortion calls from fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari, a police official said Tuesday. The businessmen, in his complaint filed on Monday, claimed that he received several calls between November 6 and 12 from a person who identified himself as Pujari and demanded Rs one crore from him, he said. The complainant also said that the caller threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay the money, the official said. The Thane Police registered a case against the unidentified caller under IPC sections pertaining to extortion and a probe was underway into it, he added.

Fresh pleas on Sabarimala will be heard after review petitions decided: SC

The Supreme Court on Tuesday made it clear that fresh pleas relating to the Sabarimala Temple will be heard only after it decides the earlier petitions seeking review of the judgement allowing entry of women of all age groups into the shrine in Kerala. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that a five-judge bench is scheduled to hear in chamber the review petitions at 3 pm today. "Writ petitions will be heard after the orders in the review petitions," the bench, also comprising Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph said while hearing the three fresh petitions filed by G Vijaya Kumar, S Jaya Rajkumar and Shailaja Vijayan challenging its September 28 verdict. If the apex court decides to review the verdict then three fresh petitions will be heard along with review petitions. If the court rejects review petitions then fresh petitions will be heard independently on merits. Woman killed in gas cylinder fire in Muzaffarnagar

A woman was killed in a fire that erupted due to gas leakage from an LPG cylinder at her residence in Ahmadpur village here, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday. The deceased, Rachna, was preparing lunch when the fire erupted, the police said. Rachna was rushed to a hospital in a serious condition. She succumbed to injuries during treatment, they said.

Driver found guilty of murdering six in Australia car rampage

Man shoots another over land dispute, held

A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting another in Odri village here over a land dispute, police said on Tuesday. The accused, Israr Hasan allegedly shot at Kauser on Monday night, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said. Ex-SS guard, 94, to testify at trial in Germany

Dabholkar case: CBI invokes terror charges against accused

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has invoked UAPA sections pertaining to acts of terror against the accused arrested in connection with the killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar. The CBI made a submission to this effect before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S M A Sayyad here in Maharashtra on Monday. "The central probing agency told the court that it has invoked sections 15 and 16 (acts of terror) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the accused persons," public prosecutor Vijaykumar Dhakane said. So far, six people, including Hindu Janajagruti Samiti member and ENT surgeon Virendrasinh Tawde, Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar, have been arrested by the CBI in connection with the killing of Dabholkar. Clashes in Muzaffarnagar after sexual harassment of minor Dalit girl, one arrested

One person has been arrested and six others booked after clashes broke out between two groups in Aterna village here over the alleged sexual harassment of a minor Dalit girl, police said on Tuesday. The clash broke out on Monday evening after a five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually harassed by a villager, they said. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, they added. According to the complaint lodged by the girl's family, the accused and his aides hurled stones at them when they confronted him. Amit Kumar (25) was injured in the stone pelting and was taken to hospital, SHO Hariram Yadav said. A case has been registered under different sections of the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police said. Three booked for sexually harassing woman medical officer in Muzaffarnagar

Three persons have been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a woman medical officer, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on November 7 in Rampuri locality here when the woman was returning home after work, they said. A case has been registered against Chandu Singh, Bihari and an unidentified youth. All three are absconding and police are searching for them, SHO Anil Kapervan said. According to the woman's complaint, three bike-borne men intercepted her while she was returning home from district hospital and sexually harassed her. She was beaten up when she opposed the trio, it said.

Pak SC to hear NAB's plea against Nawaz Sharif's release

The Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officer of former Sri Lankan Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga, has been further remanded on orders of the Colombo Chief Magistrate on Monday after he was identified by two witnesses as the perpetrator behind a mob shooting at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) that left one dead.On October 28, Ranatunga's security guard allegedly fired five live bullets at the crowd that had blocked the former Sri Lankan Minister's way when he arrived at CPC for a meeting. A retired Intelligence Bureau officer died of injuries after allegedly being hit by an auto in Vaishali here, officials said Monday. Assistant Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar said Niladri Chakravarty had lodged a report at Indirapuram Police Station regarding the sudden disappearance of his father R N Chakravarty, a resident of Judge Colony in Vaishali, on October 3. Next day, Chakravarty's body was found under an elevated road in Vaishali. After investigation, the police apprehended one Mansoor and his friend Atabul near a public school on Sunday night. 4 notorious criminals held after gunfight in Noida

Four members of a notorious criminal gang were arrested following an encounter with police here, officials said Monday. Doctor found dead at residence in northwest Delhi

Nearly a month before his daughter's wedding, a 57-year-old doctor was found dead and valuables worth lakhs of rupees missing from his residence in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area Monday, police said. The deceased was identified as Mukim Ahmad Iqbal, a medical practitioner, police said, adding that no injury marks were found on his body. A distant relative who had come to Mukim's home alerted the police about the death at around 10.30 am. On reaching the spot, the police found Mukim's body on a bed, they said. A 30-year-old army man, who was posted in Punjab, allegedly committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself at his home in Rohtas district, police said. Gagan Deep, a Naik in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, was posted at Sangrur district in Punjab. The father of a 2-year-old boy and a half and a six-month old girl had come home at Mahadeva village under Dehrinagar police station area a week ago on vacation. Dehrinagar SHO Dharmendra Kumar said Gagan Deep had a quarrel with his wife in the morning over some domestic issue and shut himself inside a room.
