Pakistan's Foreign Office on Sunday refuted social media reports of Asiya Bibi, the Christian woman, who was acquitted by the Supreme Court for blasphemy charges last month, of leaving the country.Terming the reports as "false and baseless", a spokesperson for the Foreign Office said, "Asiya Bibi has not left Pakistan and she is in the country," Geo News reported.Last week, the Foreign Office had dismissed reports of Asiya and her family leaving Pakistan.On November 7, Asiya was released from a women's prison in Multan after the completion of all formalities by the jail administration. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a petition filed by the Criminal Justice Society of India, seeking a direction to review and amend the present rape laws gender neutral.The petition demanded that Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) be declared violative.The apex court's division bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, dismissed the PIL filed by the NGO.The bench, while refusing to hear the PIL at this stage, said just because Section 377 was decriminalised, the court would not step in to make rape gender neutral, as the matter is in Parliament's domain."We are not inclined to interfere at this stage. The Parliament has to take a call in the issue," CJI Gogoi.

An alleged drug peddler was arrested here and three kilograms of charas was recovered from him, police said Monday. Amjad Hussain, a resident of Kishtwar, tried to flee upon seeing a police checkpoint in Gandhi Nagar locality of the city on Sunday evening, a police spokesperson said. The police personnel chased and caught him. Three kilograms of charas was found in his bag, the official said. Hussain was arrested and a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act was registered against him, the official added.
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) Monday filed its preliminary probe report relating to CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma in a sealed cover in the Supreme Court. A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul took the report on record and fixed the next hearing on November 16. During the hearing, interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao also filed his report on decisions taken by him from October 23 till date as head of the agency. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that former apex court judge A K Patnaik supervised the CVC inquiry which was completed on November 10. The CJI observed that the Registry was open on Sunday also but no intimation was given to the Registrar regarding filing of the report. Later the SG tendered an apology and said though he was not explaining the circumstances there was delay on their part in submitting the report.
Nine people were injured during a clash between two groups over the harassment of a woman in Khaikheri village here, police said Monday. SHO Jitender Kumar said on Sunday Bahadur Singh had an arguments with Balraj after the woman, who was known to him, was harassed by an acquaintance of Balraj. The quarrel turned violent and lathis and sharp weapons were used during the clash between two Dalit groups belonging to the same community, he said. Nine people were injured and they were rushed to a hospital, the SHO said.
The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea filed by some Manipur Police personnel seeking recusal of the judges of the bench in Manipur fake encounter cases in which the CBI Special Investigation Team (SIT) is carrying out a probe. A bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and U U Lalit said that there was no reason for these policemen to doubt the SIT and the probe conducted by it in these cases. The bench also said that the institutional integrity of the judiciary and the CBI must be maintained. The apex court's order came on a plea filed by some Manipur Police personnel who had sought recusal of judges of the bench, claiming they had earlier termed some accused, who were charge sheeted by the SIT in the encounter cases, as "murderers".
Twelve Indian fishermen have been arrested by Pakistani authorities for allegedly straying into the country's territorial waters off the coast of Sindh province, a security official said Monday. They were arrested over the weekend by personnel of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) during an operation. A security official told PTI that two boats of the fishermen were also confiscated. "The fishermen were handed over to the Docks Police Station in Karachi to register a case against them for illegal entering into Pakistan," the official said. A case has been registered against them at the Dock Police Station in Karachi. Pakistan and India regularly arrest each other's fishermen who inadvertently enter into their waters due to absence of any proper technology to confirm the coastline border between Pakistan and India near Sir Creek in the Arabian Sea. Iran's official IRNA news agency says authorities have arrested the former minister of welfare and social security for financial fraud. The Sunday report says Parviz Kazemi was taken to Tehran's Evin prison two days ago. Kazemi resigned from his post in 2006 after nearly a year under former hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over political differences. He later worked in the banking sector. In recent years, Kazemi turned into a critic of Ahmadinejad. Several of Ahmadinejad's allies are in jail over charges relating to security and financial fraud. A 14-year-old boy died after his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle in Shahadra's Krishna Nagar on early Sunday, police said. The deceased was identified as Divya Sharma, a student of class VIII, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdra) Meghna Yadav. The motorcycle was registered in his father's name, she said. Police received a call at around 7.30 am regarding the accident. The boy took out the motorcycle while his parents were asleep, Yadav said. Police are scanning the CCTV footage of the area, the DCP said.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his friend while they were drinking liquor at Samaypur Badli of Rohini, police said Sunday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, they added. The victim, Yogender Yadav (32), had gone to his friend Vijay Kumar's flat at Samaypur Badli. Kumar along with Yadav and his other friends were drinking alcohol at his flat. While their other friends left after some time, Yadav and Kumar continued their drinking session, a senior police officer said. Kumar had earlier borrowed Rs 2 lakh from the victim. While they were drinking, Yadav asked Kumar to return his money and and this led to a scuffle between the two, the officer added. Eventually, Kumar took out a pistol and shot at Yadav. A fine of Rs 2,000 was slapped on the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital here Sunday for reportedly failing to eradicate the mosquito breeding in the premises. Hospital sources said Revenue Administration Commissioner, K Sathyagopal who was here to check the steps taken to curtail the spread of dengue and swine flu inspected the hospital along with the district authorities. During the inspection, he spotted larvae in stagnant water in the sump room and immediately slapped the fine. Later, talking to reporters, District Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish said though the hospital is usually maintained properly, the mosquitoes find places to breed. The hospital staff were directed to be more vigilant.
A 65-year-old debt-ridden farmer is suspected to have ended his life by lighting up his own pyre at his farm in Maharashtra's Nanded district, police said Sunday. The deceased, Potanna Ramalu Bolpilwad, was apparently frustrated as he was unable to repay loans, which he had borrowed from banks and cooperative societies, due to crop failure, a police official said. The agriculturist had also filled up the online form for waiver of his farm loans under a state government scheme, but his name did not figure in the list of beneficiaries, said another official. On Friday evening, Bolpilwad went to his farm at Turati village near Umri area, 575km from Mumbai, built a pyre in his field and set it afire, killing himself, the official said. As he did not return home the next day, his son, Mahadu Bolpilwad, went to the farm looking for his father, following which the whole incident came to light, he said. : A man and his woman friend have been arrested for allegedly ransacking a police station and assaulting a head constable, allegedly in an inebriated state, after being taken there in connection with an accident case, police said Sunday. The duo rammed their high end vehicle into another car Friday night and also allegedly abused the other car driver, police said. The man, a film maker of a social networking site and the woman were found drunk and taken to the police station, where they allegedly ransacked the premises. The woman allegedly slapped a constable when he tried to intervene. Former Supreme Court Judge and Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and Odisha High Courts Sailendu Nath Phukan died on Sunday in upper Assam's Jorhat district. He was 83 and is survived by two sons and as many daughters. Phukan who was also former Chairman of the Assam Human Rights Commission passed away at a private hospital in Jorhat town, family sources said. Justice Phukan was associated with several organisations, including Child Care Organisation known as Helpline till the time of his demise, they said. After obtaining a law degree, Phukan enrolled as an advocate in 1962 and joined the Gauhati High Court Bar in the same year. He joined the Assam Judicial Service in 1963 and became the Law Secretary and Legal Remembrance of Meghalaya Government in 1970. Phukan was appointed as permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court in 1985, transferred to Orissa High Court the next year and then to Himachal Pradesh High Court in 1994, before being appointed as the Chief Justice of
